WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Braze is seeking an experienced and proactive Director of Commercial Legal to join our fast-growing legal team. This role will be responsible for providing strategic legal guidance on complex commercial matters, contract negotiations, and supporting our revenue-generating teams. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in driving Braze’s growth while ensuring that legal considerations align with business objectives.

  • Lead the negotiation, drafting, and execution of commercial contracts, including main subscription agreements and data processing agreements utilizing both company templates and customer templates, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, company policy, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with the sales and business development teams to address legal issues that arise during fast-paced deal cycles, providing practical and timely solutions.
  • Partner with revenue recognition and the deal desk teams to ensure agreements are consistent with internal policies and processes.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve internal policies, procedures, and contract templates.
  • Provide expert counsel on data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

WHO YOU ARE:

  • 5-10 years of relevant legal experience, ideally in commercial contracts and supporting a sales team, with a preference for experience in the tech industry or SaaS businesses.
  • Proven experience leading negotiations and drafting high-value commercial contracts in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and experience in negotiating data-related agreements.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in clear, business-friendly language.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment in a variety of legal and business contexts.
  • Must be able to work independently and be a self-motivated team player
  • Law degree and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $180,000 - $240,000/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $225,000 - $300,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, Braze offers full- and part- time employees a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that all Braze employees own a piece of our company.
