The Director of Human Resources (HR) at Petfolk is a strategic leader responsible for guiding and evolving all aspects of our HR function in alignment with Petfolk’s core values. This role encompasses employee and labor relations, total rewards, payroll, HR training, workers’ compensation, OSHA compliance, HRIS and timekeeping systems, performance management, and organizational development. The Director will partner with leadership across all teams to drive a people-first approach and manage HR policies that support Petfolk’s rapid growth in the pet care industry.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guide and develop the HR team to ensure the alignment of HR strategies with organizational goals and values.
  • Partner with leadership to design and implement performance management systems that promote a high-performance culture.
  • Provide guidance and support to Petfolk partners on employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Guide compensation and benefits programs, ensuring competitiveness within the industry and alignment with company goals.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, creating an inclusive and respectful workplace.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support organizational change management and smooth transitions as Petfolk scales.
  • Provide strategic HR insight to senior leadership, helping to align people strategies with business objectives.
  • Work with the VP of Recruiting to ensure job postings, job descriptions, and offer letters are compliant and representative of the Petfolk brand.
  • Foster a culture of feedback by overseeing the quarterly survey program, analyzing survey data for trends, and identifying actionable areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations by developing, implementing, and maintaining workplace safety programs, conducting regular audits, and addressing identified risks to promote a safe working environment.
  • Manage HR data analytics and reporting to measure HR effectiveness and make data-driven decisions.

  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of building, developing, and managing HR teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence and advise at all levels.
  • Expertise in employee relations, performance management, and organizational development.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR best practices and compliance with employment laws.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive initiatives from conception to execution.
  • High emotional intelligence, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and data analytics to drive decision-making.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and lead change within a rapidly growing organization.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • At least 7-10 years of experience in human resources, with a significant portion in leadership roles.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth organization, ideally in the pet care or related industry.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This job will be 100% remote with time being spent in clinics and in our headquarters office as needed.

 

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

  • This position is based at Petfolk’s headquarters with the option for flexible work arrangements. Occasional travel may be required for employee engagement activities and corporate events.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time. 
  • Regularly required to communicate with employees and leadership teams, both in person and remotely.
