Supervisor, Quality Assurance (Machining) - 2nd Shift

SUPERVISOR, QUALITY ASSURANCE (MACHINING) - 2ND SHIFT

The Quality Supervisor position will oversee a high performing team of 15+ precision inspectors on 2nd shift, working in close partnership with other functions within the machining department suppling parts to customers in Merlin engine sub-assemblies, Dragon capsule and Falcon 9 vehicle integration. As the quality supervisor you will drive a "quality first" culture with the team while intensely focusing on efficiency, troubleshooting bottlenecks, and managing performance

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and meet weekly to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and cost KPIs are met
  • Schedule and prioritize work-flow management
  • Create and maintain a continuous improvement culture and ecosystem within inspection areas
  • Act as the interface between the team and partnering production functions
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and reliability teams to support inspection and disposition requirements
  • Manage inspector career development planning and certification training to meet inspection needs in the work center
  • Assist in personnel hiring and sourcing recommendations
  • Manage maintenance planning and scheduling for inspection equipment
  • Prioritize and increase inspection quality by deploying lean strategies, 5S, Kaizen and data driven metric development
  • Ensure team maintains proficiency by using inspection methods, automated systems, and tooling for the work center
  • Assist in root cause analysis task for quality improvement

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing/testing environment
  • 1+ years of experience leading a team or project

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • The candidate should possess proven leadership, structured control and data driven performance management, as well as soft skills to influence and persuade
  • Willing to work extended hours to meet critical deadlines if needed
  • Knowledge and experience in lean manufacturing principles such as 5S, Kaizen, continuous improvement, and/or DMAIC
  • Sufficient knowledge and understanding of precision machining and inspection processes
  • Proven skill with navigating within ERP systems
  • Expertise in GD&T symbols and their intent, and the selection of the correct inspection technique and equipment
  • Metrology expertise, CMM techniques and language (PCDMIS), Romer Arm, etc.
  • Experience with AS9100 or similar quality management system standard
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, and walk

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work 2nd shift hours (3:00pm-1:30am) 
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends, as needed
  • Must be able to travel short and/or extended trips as needed (up to 10%)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:      

Pay range:     
Production Supervisor: $105,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year      

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are eligible for 5 days of sick leave per year.
