Division Superintendent

Job Title: Divisional Superintendent

Location: Richmond, VA

Job Type: Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $90,000 to $105,000/Annual max pay (Depending on Experience)


Basic Function:

Responsible for management and oversight of all operational, technical, administrative, and fiscal activities associated with the assigned division. This role includes management and leadership of Supervisors and Managers focused on safety/risk management, service delivery, quality control, project management, equipment/resource allocation, and enhancing client relationships.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and motivate Assistant Division Superintendents and Supervisors to achieve operational excellence.
  • Assign jobs/projects and ensure compliance with contracts and regulations.
  • Review quotes and bids for accuracy and manage subcontractor proposals.
  • Conduct regular site visits to provide guidance and support.
  • Implement and manage a division-wide safety program.
  • Develop and manage monthly/quarterly and annual budgets.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and documentation from the team.
  • Recommend staffing adjustments and equipment purchases to upper management.
  • Pursue new customer relationships and attend relevant meetings and trade shows.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Conduct hiring processes, including skills demonstrations during interviews.
  • Offer coaching and feedback for staff development and conduct annual performance assessments.
  • Monitor equipment/vehicles to assess condition and operational readiness.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Travel:
  • Frequent/extended overnight travel required.


Availability Requirement:
  • Must be on-call and able to report to the assigned shop within one hour.


Subordinate Positions:
  • Division Assistant Superintendent, Supervisor


Immediate Supervisor’s Title:
  • Regional AVP of Operations or Regional VP of Operations


Required Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in the railroad industry with knowledge of rerailing, car repair, load adjust/transfer, and track operations.
  • Solid knowledge of D.O.T. regulations and safety policies.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and client interactions.
  • Strong budget management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Effective team player with strong communication abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; preference for a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must pass qualification tests as required (includes safety training).


Physical Demands:
  • Constantly on feet; walking and carrying loads on uneven surfaces.
  • Must work in all weather conditions and extended hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and obtain assistance for heavier loads.
