Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life, and it starts right here at Gusto. That’s why we’re committed to building a collaborative and inclusive workplace, both physically and virtually. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy

About the Role:

As the Sr Manager of the Entity Management team at Gusto, you’ll have the opportunity to build and lead a brand-new team from the ground up, driving a high-impact initiative that transforms how small businesses manage compliance. Your team will tackle the complex challenge of automating government filings, registrations, and incorporation, creating a seamless experience that allows business owners to focus on growth rather than paperwork. This role is perfect for a leader who’s excited to shape a product with huge potential—one that directly supports Gusto’s mission, strengthens our People Platform, and establishes Gusto as a trusted partner from day one of our customers’ journey.

About the Team:

The Entity Management team is responsible for building and maintaining tools that help small businesses manage the entire lifecycle of their legal and compliance needs, including incorporation. This means supporting business owners from the very first step of getting their company incorporated, all the way through ongoing compliance, account monitoring, and even dissolution if needed. The team’s mission is to simplify and automate these often complex, time-consuming processes, so business owners can focus on growing their business without worrying about government regulations.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Build and foster an inclusive, collaborative and high performance culture on the team
  • Conduct regular 1:1s with your team members to support their continued growth and learning
  • Collaborate with our product management and design teams to define the problem space, work on potential solutions, and lead technical projects from initial planning, execution, to final delivery
  • Work across teams to manage dependencies and timelines
  • Effectively manage complexity, stakeholder communication and expectation setting

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 8+ years of software engineer experience
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience
  • Experience in building scalable roles and permissioning into a product platform
  • Experience in empowering and nurturing technical teams and engineers
  • Experience in leading large scope cross-functional projects and driving business growth

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $191,000/yr to $237,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $225,000/yr to $279,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
