District Coordinator

The District Coordinator (DC) is responsible for executing the Tingathe program within their district. The DC will work closely with the Cluster and site coordinators, Community Health Program Officers, District Adolescent officers, Psychosocial counsellors and other team members to provide technical support to clinical service delivery and health systems strengthening for supported health facilities to achieve program targets. The DC is expected to support the continuous quality improvement of HIV care and treatment in the district.

Key Deliverables

  • Quality  HIV Care and Treatment services delivered in all sites in district
  • Remote and physical supervision and mentorship of all district and site level clinical staff (coordinators, psycho-social counsellors, cervical cancer prevention nurses, pharmacy and laboratory technicians)
  • Achievement of district targets  - and in particular high quality care to support continuity of treatment (retention) and viral load suppression
  • Strong working relationship with the District Council, District Health Management Team and all district partners.
  • Timely response to all requests from management, including quarterly reporting, feedback on contributors to performance trends informed by district and site level data.

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Plan, coordinate and lead mentorship activities, including coordinating monthly mentorship meetings, scheduling, transport arrangements, review of mentorship activities
  • Coordination of and participation in all CPD activities
  • Foster good communication among team members and partners
  • Develop monthly and quarterly district plan
  • Monitor use of supervision and reporting tools by the cluster coordinator,  site supervisors and other Staff in the supported health facilities and ensure uniform understanding and use of program tools
  • Assist the district health office with the annual DIP preparation in relation to HIV/AIDS
  • Monitor staff performance on quarterly/annual basis and provide appropriate feedback
  • Review and use all data to assess program performance, and develop strategies to address programmatic gaps and improve performance, including development and oversight of CQI projects  
  • Represent Baylor-Tingathe at meetings at national and district levels and with partners, as assigned
  • Develop a written plan of strategies to address performance gaps (continuous quality improvement) and initiate CQI projects in collaboration with QA/QI manager and district lead.
  • Submission of reports and feedback on programmatic requests within set timelines

  • Highly skilled medical doctor, clinical officer, or nurse with a degree in Nursing and expertise in health systems management. Candidates with experience in public health leadership are strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience implementing or managing programs with public health projects
  • Strong mentorship, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Certified ART provider
  • Training in the revised 2022 integrated guidelines for clinical management of HIV in children and adults in Malawi is an added advantage
  • Strong oral and written English and Chichewa skills
  • Leader with demonstrated ability to work with colleagues at all levels in the organization.
  •  Candidate with an ability to develop and maintain respectful relationships with donors, government and stakeholders 
  • Experience monitoring programs and analyzing data 
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as a minimum with good presentation skills
