Resident Advisor

The Resident Advisor (RA) role is a student leadership position through the Office of Student Affairs under the direct supervision of the Housing and Residential Life Manager. In addition to having administrative duties, RAs are a presence and resource in the residence halls and assist in fostering a positive educational and community environment at AMDA. 
 
All applicants must submit at least one letter of recommendation and a cover letter through the Jobvite website to be considered for the position.
 
Primary Responsibilities:    
  • The RA is expected to serve as a role model for the AMDA student body by serving as a responsible member of the AMDA community.
  • The RA is expected to know and establish rapport with residential students by being available and visible in the residence halls and campus community.
  • The RA must be present for training, attend regular meetings with the supervisor and other Housing team members, and stay on campus through the day after graduation.
  • The RA must speak with their manager before scheduling any time away from the campus, as there must be campus coverage at all times.
  • The RA must uphold and personally abide by all Code of Conduct policies and federal and state laws as specified in the AMDA Student Handbook.
 
Additional Information: 
  • RAs may be assigned to a building other than their currently assigned building. Any candidate unwilling to change buildings will not be considered for the position.
  • Some candidates may be offered the Alternate RA position. While the responsibilities are similar to those of a " Full-Time” RA, Alternate RAs receive remuneration with hourly pay by completing an AMDA Student Worker Timesheet and logging all their work associated with the position (e.g., meetings, on-call hours, program planning).
 
Qualifications:
  • Must be enrolled for in-person classes at AMDA NY during the term of employment.
  • Must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA and maintain this GPA while serving as an RA.
  • Must be a 2nd or 3rd-semester student for the upcoming term. 3rd Year students are also welcome to apply! 
  • Must have an exemplary attendance record as deemed by and at the discretion of Student Affairs.
