What You’ll Do
- Own the Waking Up Design System
- Manage, update, and optimize our Figma design libraries to reflect current and future product needs.
- Collaborate with designers to develop new components as required, and to make sure components are being used as intended.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure design assets and components translate smoothly into development.
- Maintain consistency between the design system and client applications, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Collaborate with Development Teams
- Serve as the primary design representative for passing specifications, measurements, and logic to developers.
- Provide answers to technical and design-related questions during implementation and QA cycles.
- Act as a bridge between design and engineering, ensuring that our vision aligns with what gets built.
- Document Product Requirements
- Maintain and update our product specifications in GitHub using simple markdown and screenshots.
- Ensure that these documents are always accurate and serve as a “source of truth” for current and completed features.
- Support UX/UI Development Stories
- Support the lead designer in creating detailed user flows and logic for new features.
- Draft annotations describing user flows in Figma to help clarify the intended user experience for each feature, ensuring alignment within the team.
- Participate in QA Sprints
- Join QA sprints as a representative of the product team to validate UI/UX implementations.
- Ensure that design intentions are fully realized and provide feedback to developers as needed.
- Proficiency in Design Systems
- We are looking for an expert in managing and scaling design systems (especially in Figma) within cross-functional teams.
- A strong understanding of component libraries and design-to-development workflows is required.
- An owner's mindset around building out, maintaining and disseminating all aspects of the Design System to support an efficient and healthy product lifecycle.
- 4+ years of experience in a full-time role working directly with engineers to hand off design system assets is preferred.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Excellent written communication skills across channels (Figma, ClickUp, email, Slack, GitHub).
- Ability to clearly explain design decisions, UX logic, and technical requirements to developers and non-developers alike.
- Willingness to disagree and commit. We like to challenge assumptions and hear differing opinions, and at the end of the day when the decision is made, we commit to the approach with unity.
- You are comfortable working with executive and C-suite stakeholders, confidently presenting insights and recommendations.
- Technical Understanding
- Familiarity with front-end development basics and the ability to communicate design specifications in developer-friendly terms.
- Experience maintaining and documenting product specifications in GitHub (or similar tools).
- Detail-oriented & Proactive
- A “nothing is someone else’s problem” mindset: you take ownership and proactively identify solutions.
- Ability to self-manage and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring that no requirement or specification gets overlooked as we move from product design into development.
