Youth Ministry Associate

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

The Youth Associate is responsible to lead and administrate the Youth Ministry at the Langley South site. This position works with the Youth Coordinator in developing a key team of volunteer leaders who are passionate about students and the mission to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus.  Working collaboratively with the Langley South Family Ministries site team, this position plans and executes weekly events, develops strategic relationships, and co-pastors the Junior and Senior youth at the site. The Youth Associate mobilizes leaders and students to spread the gospel, and be servants to their community in and outside of Village Church.

  • Oral Communication: Brings routine or factual information to life, capturing an idea and locking it in.   Applies an engaging presentation style, piquing interest - taking a dry idea and bringing it to life.  Is able to tailor information to the audience, persuading and inspiring action. Understands the Village vision and mission and is able to clearly and passionately communicate it.  A good conversationalist and presenter.

  • Strategic Leadership: Develops a broad and big picture view of the ministry as it relates to the vision and mission of Village Church. Maintains a strategic and analytical focus on the long term goals while conceptually problem solving on a daily basis. Identifies opportunities to support organizational growth and/or enhance effectiveness through sorting through clutter and finding the best route. Anticipates potential challenges and develops contingency plans to support the achievement of the vision.  Breaks down the barriers to completion.

  • Collaboration: Works cooperatively with others and follows through on assigned tasks.  It’s an all hands on deck approach to ensure deliverables are completed on time. Works together effectively with interdependent goals and common values and norms to foster a best team environment. 

  • Flexible Thinking: Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and effectively adapt to a variety of situations. The ability to understand and appreciate different and opposing perspectives, proposing ways to do things differently.  Displays a positive attitude in the face of ambiguity and change.  Your creative flexibility in complex situations leads to greater efficiency. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees and executes the weekly Jr. & Sr. Youth program, including midweek evenings, and events. 
  • Oversees Sunday morning Jr. Youth in collaboration with the Village Kids Site Leader.
  • Manages Youth Coordinator.
  • Communicates to families and leaders on what is happening and the expectations.
  • Planning, organizing and executing the mid-week youth nights.
  • Leads debriefs and works closely with the Student Ministries Director.
  • Networks with the wider community to broaden relationships with schools, churches, ministries in the local area.
  • Works with the Village Kids team to ensure a robust intake plan for grade 5 students into Jr Youth.
  • Drives improvement and innovation of  the Langley South youth programs in collaboration with the Hub team and Student Ministries Director. 
  • Maintains a high level of relational communication with students and leaders throughout the week.
  • Maintains a high level of communication and partnership with parents by facilitating parent labs, parent connections and checking in and caring for families. 
  • Implementing strategies to close the “back door”. For example: following up with families of students who haven’t been around in a few weeks.
  • Ensures that metrics are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Responsible for social media and keeping the website up to date with the current youth calendar and news.
  • Participates in the Hub planning, strategizing and execution of retreats and camp.
  • Contributes to a team culture of play, pray, reach, and teach within the youth leaders.
  • Commits to thanking at least one volunteer on a weekly basis.
  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the Standard of Conduct as outlined in the Village Staff Manual. 
  • Ensures all responsibilities are completed in a purposeful, strategic and focused manner that points people to Jesus. 
  • Acts as a servant by inviting, discipling, training and equipping others to serve. 
  • Ensures all responsibilities are produced, promoted and led with a high level of innovation and excellence, honouring God at the highest level.  
  • Acts with a sense of ambitious urgency, ensuring all work is completed wisely and impactfully.  Time is a gift from God. 
  • Maintains an openness to being a learner by committing to continuous spiritual, professional, and self development. 
  • Contributes to the best team culture by participating joyfully and working well with peers.

Gospel

  • Keeping the Gospel central to both the mission and vision of Village Youth.
  • Reaching students both inside and outside of the church.
  • Intentional discipleship of Small Group Leaders and volunteers within the youth ministry. 
  • Resourcing for parents with the focus of equipping parents to be able to disciple their students and engage in complex conversations.

Community 

  • Create opportunities for volunteers to be developed and discipled.
  • A continued growth and development of our Small Group Culture (Lead Small).
  • Foster a youth group culture where students feel seen, welcomed and loved.  
  • Fostering a gospel-centered, invitational culture within Small Groups.

  • Creates a space where questions from culture are addressed and the gospel is contextualized to reach unchurched students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Philosophically aligned with Village Church Mission, Focus and strategy.
  • Fulfills character qualifications as highlighted in 1 Timothy and Titus. 
  • Fulfill the duties required of Village Church members as outlined in the ‘This is Village Church’ course.
  • Pursues a deeper relationship with Christ and greater spiritual growth through prayer, the gospel, and community. Is a disciple.
  • Demonstrated passion about students and building a team to see students become passionate followers of Jesus. 
  • Has a creative spark for engaging hard to reach students. 
  • Theologically sound

  • Proven ability to recruit and lead a team of high capacity volunteers
