South Atlanta Veterinary Emergency & Specialty is looking for a Veterinary Technician Team Lead to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You
As a Veterinary Technician Team Lead, you'll play an important role in pets' lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to surgery assistance, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.
 
The Veterinary Technician Shift Lead is dedicated to the quality care of all clients and their pets through the development, mentorship and leadership of veterinary technicians and assistants. This is achieved by keeping Thrive’s mission, medical initiatives and standards in the forefront at all times and empowering our technicians and assistants to do the same. The goal of this position will be to support the hospitals by developing and engaging the technician and assistant teams through validated resources, culture of collaboration and networking. The Veterinary Technician Shift Leads will leverage these goals to concentrate on elevating medical quality, team and patient safety along with establishing a roadmap for career advancement, retention of team members and to attract new team members to Thrive. 
 
Qualifications:
Required:  
1. Educational:  
  • High School Diploma;
  • Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral);
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows platform, and email
2. Professional:  
  • 3 - 5 years of veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience.
  • Experience in leadership and/or management.
3. Physical:  
  • Able to support patients up to 50kg (110lb) and lift up to 25kg (55lb) with assistance;
  • Willing and able to stand and crouch for long periods of time;
 
Preferred:  
  • Associates degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Veterinary Technology.
  • Degree Certificates in Veterinary Technology.
  • Previous experience as Supervisor or Manager.
  • Experience and ease with public speaking and presenting.
TRAINING
  • ·      Conduct quarterly Assessments of the hospital’s needs for tech/assistant education, training and policy implementation with the support of hospital leadership team.
  • ·      In collaboration with hospital leadership team and the Regional Technician Director, strategize, execute, and evaluate, implementation of new technician/ assistant education, trainings, and policy.
  • ·      Work with the Hospital & Regional Technician Director to develop relevant training tools and development plans.
  • ·      Assist with the improvement of patient workflow and help doctors better understand technician skillset to improve overall patient care.
  • ·      Work with the Hospital & Regional Technician Director to develop and implement relevant training for home hospital and assist with training other hospitals with similar skillset.
  • ·      Work with Hospital & Regional Technician Director and Hospital Leadership team to implement educational initiatives.
  • ·      Assisting the Hospital & Regional Technician Director to provide and organize opportunities for hands on training at hospitals on a variety of topics
  • ·      Deliver new hire orientation in conjunction with Hospital & Regional Technician Director and the hospital leadership team.
  • ·      Engage in solution-focused discussions to promote technician and assistant teams input and collaboration
  • ·      Participate in leadership training to enhance overall contributions to the hospital.
  • ·      Provide training for consistent information throughout Thrive.
  • ·      Responsible for the leadership growth, talent development, and mentorship of the hospital team Building relationships and opportunities for student internships and externships to meet educational requirements for the hospital’s students

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
  • ·      Work in cooperative group with other Veterinary Technician Leads and the Hospital & Regional Technician Director to develop educational resources and training opportunities.
  • ·      Recruiting resources for each department.
  • ·      Virtual and recorded program resources to share with the group.
  • ·      Work with the Hospital & Regional Technician Director to develop and update training courses relevant to the hospital and the region.
  • ·      Work with the Hospital & Regional Technician Director to organize wet lab organization.
  • ·      Work with the Hospital & Regional Technician Director to develop and support training & oversight of common compliance needs in our hospitals including OSHA, DEA, Radiology and Waste Gas Safety.

  • ·      Leadership skills including the ability to inspire, the ability to delegate, creativity and confidence.
  • ·      Strong understanding of protocol management and implementation. Example: CPR.

  • ·      Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, collaborative and teamwork skills;
  • ·      Takes initiative, works independently, exhibits decision-making skills, and, exercises good judgment;
  • ·      Promote positive environment for learning and growth of veterinary technician and assistants in their region;

  • ·      Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships with professionalism and integrity;
  • ·      Exhibits a positive attitude while being courteous, diplomatic and discreet; and,
  • ·      Maintains professionalism and confidentiality.

Working Conditions
In this environment, you may be exposed to the following: radiation, biohazardous substances, chemical hazards, potentially fractious patients, emotionally stressful situations, unpleasant odors, pet bites/ scratches, loud noises, animal feces, and, contagious diseases.
