The Flood Warning Analyst will perform field work and desktop tasks to advance the reliability and resilience of the City’s Flood Warning System which consists of flood and weather monitoring stations located throughout the City (see www.fortworthtexas.gov/floodwarning for more information). There are currently 84 “master” stations that monitor flood and weather parameters, along with over 200 roadside remote flashers that are controlled by the “masters.” Field work will include installing, maintaining, and repairing infra-structure (pole-cabinet assemblies), low voltage (12V DC or less) electronics, and telemetry equipment.
Typical outdoor work consists of diagnosing problems reading tables from data loggers, trouble shooting and repairing electronic and radio telemetry equipment, performing scheduled maintenance and calibration tests on sensors. The applicant should have excellent organizational and logistic skills with ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The Flood Warning group is embarking on initiatives ranging from flood forecasting to integrating flood warning with traffic management systems to improve road safety. Working Conditions
This position requires a high level of safety awareness. The applicant will be working outdoors 2-3 days in a typical work week. Working conditions outdoors will be on ladders or while hoisted from bucket trucks repairing equipment on utility poles. Conduit and cable work for sensors will be performed on culvert headwalls and in creeks. Occasional heavy lifting (not more than about 30 pounds) will be required. Applicants will need to be familiar with use of tools to assemble infra-structure components such as poles, cabinets and masts and guide cables through conduits, and testing and diagnosing electrical circuits with multimeters. Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking and repetitive motions.
