We are a private investigation firm specializing in complex federal criminal cases appointed under the Criminal Justice Act (CJA). Our team supports court-appointed attorneys and public defenders by conducting in-depth investigations that uphold the constitutional rights of defendants in federal court. Our work includes reviewing discovery, interviewing witnesses, locating key evidence, and preparing investigative reports.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Intern to support our investigative team with legal research, case analysis, document review, and administrative tasks related to ongoing federal criminal investigations. This position offers hands-on exposure to real-world criminal defense cases and is ideal for law students or recent graduates interested in federal defense, criminal law, or investigative work.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct legal research related to federal criminal statutes, procedural issues, sentencing guidelines, and evidentiary matters.
• Assist with reviewing discovery materials including law enforcement reports, transcripts, and electronic evidence.
• Draft legal memoranda, case summaries, and investigative chronologies.
• Help prepare witness interview outlines and attend interviews (as appropriate).
• Organize case files and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with CJA and court protocols.
• Coordinate with defense counsel, expert witnesses, and other professionals involved in the case.
• Assist with preparing exhibits, timelines, and case presentations for hearings or trial.
Qualifications:
• Current law student (1L, 2L, or 3L) or recent law graduate.
• Strong interest in federal criminal law, investigations, or public defense.
• Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
• High attention to detail and confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under deadlines.
• Proficiency with legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must pass a background check and sign a confidentiality agreement.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience with criminal law or investigative work.
• Familiarity with the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) or federal public defense system.
• Spanish or other language skills a plus.
