Data Scientist - (2025 Winter Co-op)

THE OPPORTUNITY:

4 month contract working remote from January - April 2025 (full-time)

As a data scientist at Pelmorex you will have the opportunity to work on a very diverse set of projects in various business units.  These include product demand forecasting based on weather in our B2B business,  utilizing Deep Learning in weather prediction,  and various ad-tech solutions from improved audience targeting to advanced location insights

Please note, this role requires you to be eligible to work in Canada and provide Eastern Standard hours support

• Apply ML at scale in various revenue generating projects
• Develop innovative algorithms that provide best-in-class solutions for audience targeting and attribution and weather based demand forecasting in a variety of industries
• Brainstorm and create powerful visualizations that makes data accessible and understandable;
• Utilize the latest advancements in GenAI to produce client facing summaries that can monetize our various prediction algorithms
• Contribute with development best practices and experiment with new ideas;
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify creative solutions for data targeting, and plan and execute key products from concept to production

• 2+ years of data science experience in industry
• Strong and fundamental understanding of statistics , including knowledge of probability theory, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and data modeling.
• Solid understanding of Machine Learning (ML) concepts and its application in a variety of use cases such as classification, regression, clustering, and anomaly detection.
• Experience developing ML solutions in industry or research including preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection, training, validation, and deployment.
•  Good foundation in SQL for data manipulation, querying, and analyzing data to support machine learning and data science initiatives.
• Strong programming skills in python (preferred), including relevant statistical, machine learning, and deep learning libraries (pandas, numpy, stats models, scikit-learn, tensorflow, etc.)
• Experience with distributed computing environments (e.g., Apache Spark)
• Skills in graphical data visualization (Google Looker, Matplotlib or similar)
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas to an audience with a non-technical background 

• Experience developing Deep Learning solutions in industry/research.
• Bonus if this experience is applied to large datasets where distributed data frameworks are necessary
