Role Overview

The Student Engagement Manager’s role is to inspire every Jewish student to develop an enduring understanding that Judaism is relevant and transformative, alive with innovative opportunity, and compels action, leading to a meaningful and connected Jewish life. The Student Engagement Manager brings contagious energy, dynamism, and creativity to their work with students. The Student Engagement Manager will work closely with the Assistant Director in developing and implementing their vision for programming and engagement at Hunter Hillel.

What You’ll Do

  • Build relationships with students by meeting them where they are, such as attending on-campus events and meetings, tabling, one-on-one coffee conversations, facilitating small group discussions, staffing immersive experiences, and developing new and creative initiatives.
  • Coordinate bridge building work with other cultural and religious groups on campus, demonstrating allyship, increasing awareness of antisemitism, and facilitating collaborative events with non-Jewish groups.
  • Advise Jewish student clubs, empowering them to enact their missions and plan dynamic programs.
  • Recruit and supervise student interns.
  • Explore additional initiatives and projects that align with your unique skills, passions, and Hunter Hillel's organizational objectives.

Communications and Marketing

  • Provide leadership in marketing, public relations and promotional activities as appropriate, including oversight of the website and other social media.
  • Build and maintain strong social media communications with current students, parents, alumni.
  • Provide information to prospective students and their parents, and create welcoming opportunities including Open Houses, new student events, and hosting by current Jewish students.

Engagement

  • Work closely with the Assistant Director to develop and execute general strategy for programming and engagement.
  • Oversee and implement the annual cycle of programs (Shabbat, holidays, etc.).
  • Manage special events as needed throughout the year, oftentimes collaboratively with other staff and student leaders.  These projects might include student-led conferences, large-scale Shabbat experiences, and other programs as applicable.
  • Develop new and enhance existing service learning initiatives and community partners to reach a larger group of students.
  • Advise some of Hillel’s student groups - guiding them in their programming and leadership development, developing ongoing mentoring relationships with them and attending many student-initiated programs (including some evenings, weekends, and Jewish holidays).
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director to design and implement leadership development programs for students.
  • Oversee the supervision of student workers and engagement interns.
  • Supervision of the student leadership team.
  • Maintain program and engagement attendance records for measurement and ongoing evaluation purposes.

Jewish Life and Israel Education

  • Serve as a strong Jewish role model.
  • Seek to understand and engage Jewish traditions, thinking, and history across difference.
  • Ensure a pluralistic and welcoming atmosphere for all.
  • Ensure a diversity of perspectives on Israel are presented in a way that engages students
  • Demonstrate facility and comfort with Jewish traditions, holidays, culture, and basic texts. Communicate this knowledge to others.
  • Actively seek out and participate in Jewish experiences for professional and personal growth.
  • Engage in meaningful one-on-one and group conversations about Jewish life and living.
  • Produce creative Jewish experiences to develop students’ Jewish identities.
  • Help others along a path of Jewish discovery.

What You’ve Accomplished

  • 2+ years of full time work experience, preferably in the Jewish community.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s Degree in relevant fields preferred.
  • Proven success in planning and leading events, forming relationships with diverse people, experience in social media and digital marketing, including the creation of graphic design content and email marketing.
