HOUSING EXTERMINATOR (HA)

Job Description

Under general supervision, performs work in the prevention, control and elimination of insects, vermin and other pests from buildings and surrounding areas. Examples of tasks but not limited to the below:
- Inspect premises and investigate complaints of infestation.
- Determine the appropriate method of extermination to be used.
- Treat and do exclusion of pests.
- Follow IPM guidelines as set out in NYCHA Pest Control Standard Procedure.
- Work alone or in groups, based on supervisors’ assignment.
- Clean and repair equipment.
- Keep records in handheld of exterminating operations performed.
- Do inventory of storage rooms when asked.

1. Employees applying for promotional, title or level change opportunities must have served a period of one year at current location and in current title and level (if applicable).
2. NYCHA residents are encouraged to apply.

NOTE: The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) administered a civil service exam for the Housing Exterminator title on 12/07/2023. Therefore, applicants (candidates) that did not take and pass the exam will potentially not be considered, likewise applicants not reachable on the established civil service list will potentially be in jeopardy of being replaced with an eligible civil service candidate.

NOTE: IF THIS APPOINTMENT IS MADE ON A PROVISIONAL BASIS PURSUANT TO 65 OF THE NYS CIVIL SERVICE LAW, NO TENURE OR PERMANENCE ACCRUES TO AN INCUMBENT IN THIS POSITION BY VIRTUE OF SUCH APPOINTMENT.

Qualifications

A valid certificate as a Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator for Industrial, Institutional, Structural and Rodent Control (7A) issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. This certificate must be maintained for the duration of employment.

License Requirement
For appointment to certain positions, at the time of appointment eligibles must possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
