Maintenance Technician

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Technician will perform facility repairs and preventative maintenance work assignments as assigned. This may include a wide range of general maintenance requests related to testing, grounds, and preventative maintenance. This team member is based out of our Johnston location, but may travel to other locations beyond the Des Moines metro.   

Schedule
Monday- Friday typical business hours with rotating on-call responsibilities.

What You'll Do

  • General testing, troubleshooting, repair, and/or replacement:
    · Electrical issues such as outlets, switches, ballasts, light bulbs, and other equipment.
    · Plumbing issues: clogged drains, faucets, sinks, toilets, and showers.
    · Household appliances: refrigerator, dishwasher, stove/oven, washer, dryer, etc.
    · HVAC equipment, thermostats, etc.
    · Basic carpentry, drywall patch/repair, and painting.
  • Perform preventive maintenance:
    ·  HVAC, fire door, hospital grade outlets, emergency lighting, assist with annual fire system inspections, and other safety inspections as needed.
  • Perform general groundskeeping:
    · Mow and trim garden areas.
    · Snow removal with manual and power equipment of main campus and daycare centers.
  • Respond to all maintenance calls during shift as assigned. Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to complete interior and exterior maintenance orders as requested across multiple locations. 
  • Respond to on-call requirements as assigned, per the on-call rotation schedule.
  • Assist with moving and assembly of general office, therapy, playground, and household furniture, equipment, and appliances.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding the status of maintenance orders, and promptly report any potential or existing problems.
  • Complete work assignments and record-keeping requirements timely and with high quality.
  • Follow local and state building codes. Demonstrate proficiency in use of equipment and uses equipment safely.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in use of tools and equipment.
  • Assume responsibility for the maintenance and care of all maintenance equipment and keep the shop organized and clean at all times.


What You'll Need   

  • High school/equivalent required. 
  • One-year experience in maintenance field with experience in plumbing and wiring preferred.
  • Ability to provide own basic set of hand tools. Power and specialty tools provided by ChildServe for use.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs, be mobile within the facilities, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.  
  • Ability to withstand exposure to both heat and cold and contact with water and cleaning maintenance agents.
  • Ability to become an approved driver and maintain a driving record that meets facility and insurance approval. Approved drivers must be able to operate vehicles and maintenance machinery and equipment, as well as travel independently within the local area regularly, and within the state occasionally.
