Sr. Recreation Programmer

Pay Range: $24.67 - $30.83/hr.

Job Posting Closing on: Thursday, May 29th, 2025

Workdays & Hours: Monday-Thursday from 12:00 PM- 9:00 PM; Friday from 9 AM-6 PM and some weekend shifts

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Sports Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in community center service or recreational programming experience.
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Must be able to pass physical, drug test, and tuberculosis screening

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proficient technical skills, including Microsoft Office, Canva and social media platforms. Able to create marketing materials and experience using social media.
  • Experience using Active Net or other similar recreation software
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating youth needs to create programs that provide character development.

The Sr. Recreation Programmer job responsibilities include: 

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of recreational, educational, leisure, athletic programs and life skill development community programs and events..
  • Coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public; and to provide responsible staff assistance to management staff.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program components for youth by providing effective, meaningful, and developmentally-appropriate activities.
  • Plan and lead services for afterschool, school break camps and summer day camp, including development of lesson plans, registration process, communication with parents, supervising activities and supplies ordering
  • Develop recreation, educational and life skills programs for at-risk youth and young adults
  • Provide support and mentoring through engaging youth in programs and services.
  • Provide appropriate supervision for youth at all times by creating safe spaces to talk and demonstrate self-expression through group, recreational, educational and live skill activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
  • Participate from outreach events to develop partnerships and promote services offered at the Community Center.
  • Assists with set up and breaking down tables and chairs for activities and events as well as with other similar maintenance duties.

  • Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Physical Demands

  • Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects
