In an increasingly complex housing market, our consumer experience serves as a trusted guide, helping buyers, renters, owners, and sellers navigate their journey with intuitive tools and innovative experiences.As a design manager, you'll work closely with cross-functional partners in Product and Engineering to create and execute towards our bold vision and strategy. You will be responsible for building, leading, and mentoring a high-performing team of skilled product designers to accomplish their goals and improve the experience for our 75M monthly active users. The ideal candidate has a strong background in consumer-facing products and experiences.This role reports to the Sr Director of Consumer Design.

What you’ll do:

Design Leadership & Execution

• Ensure the team delivers high-quality, intuitive, and accessible experiences that prioritize usability and consistency
• Support cross-functional teams in applying human-centered design principles, translating user needs into solutions that drive business impact
• Contribute to the evolution and adoption of design systems, working with design leadership to ensure efficiency and scalability
• Provide thoughtful and constructive design feedback to improve project outcomes
• Advocate for user research and data-driven decision-making to guide design direction
• Track and measure design success in collaboration with cross-functional partners
• Clearly communicate design rationale to Product, Engineering, and other stakeholders

People Management

• Mentor and support a high-performing team of product designers, fostering career growth and engagement
• Lead with empathy, setting clear expectations and fostering accountability
• Provide clear and actionable feedback while demonstrating openness to receiving it
• Support employee growth and skill development
• Provide visibility and accountability for your team’s work
• Foster effective communication and collaboration across designers and cross-functional teams
• Build strong working relationships with partners in Product, Engineering, Research, Marketing, and Data Science
• Help optimize design workflows, tools, and collaboration practices
• Champion design methodologies that improve efficiency and impact
• Facilitate design-led initiatives and cross-functional workshops
• Contribute to an inclusive culture which invites all to participate

What you’ll bring: 

• 6+ years working in design industry, with at least 4 years in a product-led organization
• 1+ years of leading or managing a team of 1-3 designers
• Strong visual design skills with a clear design point of view, showcased in a compelling portfolio
• Experience delivering iteratively with cross-disciplinary teams
• Informed and strong opinions, loosely held
• Deep understanding of user-centered processes and design thinking principles
• Experience in consumer-facing products preferred
• A “We, Not Me” mindset: collaborative, team-oriented, and invested in shared success
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
