Quality Assurance Lab Technician

Mullins Cheese and Mullins Whey has an opening in our quality assurance department. Mullins Cheese and Mullins Whey are 4th generation family owned businesses. Our current location has been producing dairy products for 50 years and ships dairy products globally. As a member of the quality assurance team you'll be responsible for creating and maintaining quality assurance programs to exceed our customers expectations. You will gain knowledge and understanding of our processes in order to solve root cause analysis. We are looking for person's who are ambitious to continually learn and have excellent people skills as you will regularly interact with employees, customers and management.

Position Summary:

Monitor, act upon, and assist others with internal and external audits, customer feedback, process performance, product conformance, preventive and correction actions, and changes that affect the quality and business management systems.  Assist with putting in place tests to determine quality of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products. Control process and product performance through the management of tests, documentation of procedures, and education and training of employees.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform tests on product using current equipment and following standard methods
  • Maintain laboratory records
  • Comply with all processes and procedures of the BRC to assure safe, quality product
  • Ensure the availability of resources and information necessary to support the operation, monitoring, and continual improvement of quality system processes
  • Determine the monitoring and measurement to be undertaken to provide evidence of conformity to product specifications
  • Manage the processes involved with the calibration of measuring and monitoring devices used to ensure conformity of product specifications
  • Work with others to determine the necessary competence for personnel performing work affecting product quality
  • Maintain appropriate records of education, training, skills and experience
  • Assist with communication regarding the effectiveness of the quality management system via meetings, corrective and preventive actions and project teams

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Willing and Able to be exposed to/perform all physical and environmental factors including very hot climates to extremely cold climates.
  • Education: Associates degree in food and/or quality related field; education not required if have sufficient work related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2-5 years in position (with education); 0-1 year experience (with education) must be willing to learn from the ground up which includes learning some/all positions throughout facility.
  • Forklift Certification or prior experience using electric and propane forklifts.

Physical Requirements:

  • Twisting, bending, and squatting with 50lbs object in hand (occasionally)
  • Long Periods of Standing and Walking (occasionally)
  • Lifting 60 lbs. from the ground (occasionally)
  • Good finger/hand/multi-limb dexterity (occasionally)

Schedule Requirements:

Normal: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturdays (typically 1 Saturday a month), Sundays if the facility is running (facility is usually shut down on Sundays)

Environmental Factors:

  • Sometimes hot and humid work area
  • Sometimes cool conditions (product cooler)
  • Flammable material
  • Chemical Exposure
  • Hot Surfaces Contact
  • Exposure to Dairy Products
  • Position can become extremely overwhelming at times and slow at other points; the overwhelming times can be stressful, and the slow times can feel boring

Wage / Hours:

  • $20/hr but open based upon experience
  • Day shift (open on start and end times)
  • Full-time, 40 – 50 hours Per Week, 1.5x pay over 40 hours and 1.5x pay on Sundays/Holidays
  • $3 shift premium 6pm-6am Monday-Friday, and all day on Saturdays
