As a Technical Specialist for Suspension Tunables, you will design components that control vehicle roll, pitch, and heave and the movement of the unsprung suspension mass. You will engage with attribute groups and other system owners to take premier suspension tunables from concept to production.
Role
· Design and develop components, such as springs, stabilizer bars, top mounts and dampers, from initial concept to production
· Establish component requirements and specifications based on desired vehicle attributes and durability targets
· Complete component DFMEAs and DVPs, and contribute to system failure mode analyses
· Assist the vehicle dynamics team with tuning parts to achieve desired vehicle attributes
· Lead technical design reviews for System/Subsystem/Component
· Coach, Mentor, & Train Suspension D&R engineers
· Signoff of System/Subsystem/Component based after DV and PV completion
· Conduct global supplier onsite reviews at component plants and recommend best practices for manufacturing process and quality control
· Provide technical support to the Architecture teams
· Conduct benchmarking to optimize component design for future programs.
· Leverage CAE modelling capability to optimize quality, maximize efficiency and minimize cost
· Contribute to the suspension technology roadmap for future vehicles
Qualifications
· 8+ years of automotive industry experience at OEM or supplier, mostly focused on suspension or chassis mechanical design
· Experience designing components from concept to production
· Hands-on practical experience in prototype assembly
· Experience in technology, system, and supplier selection
· Proven 3D CAD and CAE skills, project leadership, and mentoring skills
· Design release engineering experience, including engineering change management and project management experience
· Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% if needed
Preferred
· 10+ years of automotive industry experience
· Experience working at Tier 1/Tier 2 automotive suppliers & Automotive OEMs
· Experience working closely with Vehicle Dynamics & Durability teams to balance attributes.
· Experience and proficiency with CATIA V5/V6
· Knowledge of vehicle dynamics, NVH, and vehicle crash safety principles
· Ability to run and teach others to use structural analysis tools
· Experience developing tools and processes to aid virtual prototyping of components and shorten lead time.
· Experience and understanding of automotive mechatronics design and control theory
