THE ROLE

Khan Academy is seeking an experienced and versatile Math educator to serve as a Secondary Math Content Creator. This is a fixed-term position with an expected term of 24 months. By offering high quality standards-aligned Math lessons for free, we hope to empower millions of students to take charge of their futures and improve their lives.

As a Content Creator, you’ll leverage your intuition for what matters to deliver high quality learning content, robust coverage, and usage. You’ll own and drive content creation and curation on some courses, and contribute to similar efforts on courses driven by others. You won’t be working in isolation; you’ll be working closely with other members of the content team, other teams at KA, and external contributors.

Our content team includes content creators from around the world who make our videos, articles, and practice questions. Today, our courses include nearly every math topic from K-14, science and humanities content covering high school and early college, test prep for several national exams, and much more! In the years ahead, we want to double down on making our courses great in classrooms and help push online education to the next level.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with the content team to expand our Math courses by leveraging market research, your subject matter expertise, and your intuition for learner needs
  • Develop course scopes and sequences, including units, lessons, and content assets (articles, videos, and exercises)
  • Create and curate high quality content on schedule, designing and developing new standards-aligned exercises and articles, leveraging pre-existing resources from Khan Academy and third parties, and scriptingengaging lesson videos 
  • Be accountable for content from any contractors and 3rd parties used to build out the courses you’re working on
  • Track the performance and usage of content in the courses in your purview
  • Leverage analytics, community features, and campaigns to attract and retain learners
  • Learn and use our content management system to improve existing courses and build new courses 
  • Act as an editorial expert by reviewing new content, participating in the maintenance of existing content, and working with partners
  • Contribute to the long-term strategic direction of Khan Academy’s content efforts by improving upon our processes around content sourcing, sharing insights with other members of the team, and advocating for learners

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Proven ability to create high-impact learning content in your discipline (minimum of 2 years of content development experience in secondary Math subjects with a focus on Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, and AP math courses. 
  • Strong intuition for how students like to learn and insight into common misconceptions (minimum of 2 years of relevant teaching/tutoring experience)
  • Previous edtech experience developing math content is a plus 
  • Experience and aptitude working with multiple standards sets (e.g. CCSS, State Standards etc.) to ensure coverage and alignment during course development and curation.
  • Desire to teach at scale, engage with a broad array of learners, and question your assumptions about what's most important for learners
  • Desire to leverage online tools to publish quickly, gather user feedback, and iterate on content
  • Highly analytical and able to make tough prioritization calls in service of most critical metrics
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, including a high tolerance for ambiguity, a penchant for experimentation, and a bias toward action
  • Strong interest in building replicable systems and minimizing reinvention of the wheel
  • Experience leading collaborative work on time-sensitive projects
  • Impeccable command of written communication; an energetic can-do attitude as a fluent and efficient content creator, a keen editorial eye for high quality text in exercises and articles, and a knack for empowering, supportive peer review.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and time management skills
  • Project management skills (e.g. fluent with Google docs and spreadsheets and other tools) and a willingness to learn new tools

  • Proven cross-cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of other, and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging throughout the organization.

At Khan Academy we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices, the well-being of our employees, and our Khan community. This belief is why we have built out a robust Total Rewards package that includes competitive base salaries, and extensive benefits and perks to support physical, mental, and financial well-being.

The target salary range for this position is $77,600 - $96,000 USD / $104,760 -  $130,815.14 CAD. The pay range for this position is a general guideline only. The salary offered will depend on internal pay equity and the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and job market data. Exceptional performers in this role who make an outsized contribution can make well in excess of this range.  Additional incentives are provided as part of the complete total rewards package in addition to comprehensive medical and other benefits.
