About the Role

Gusto Money is a new team focused on delivering a suite of employer based financial services (e.g. invoicing, bill pay, expense management, lending, etc.). We're in the early stages now, but excited to build a brand new revenue stream and front door for Gusto, which will be key to unlocking Gusto’s next phase of growth. This is a high visibility initiative with potential to drive significant revenue and company wide impact. We’re looking for experienced engineers who can rapidly architect, design, and implement several 0-1 product initiatives in this space. Here’s What You’ll Do Day-to-day

  • Build the software platform that powers a new wave of employer based financial services for Gusto
  • Work with engineering leadership to build out the team and set engineering culture and standards
  • Mentor and provide guidance to software engineers, fostering their growth and development
  • Take ownership of projects, ensuring they meet high standards of quality and performance
  • Collaborate on complex and ambiguous problems with partnerships from Engineering, Product Management, Design, Data Science, Compliance, Operations, and other cross-functional teams
  • Help drive the product development process from concept to launch

 

Here’s What We’re Looking For

  • 15+ years of professional software development experience
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and working in a 0-1 environment with quick iteration cycles
  • Experience architecting, building, and testing large-scale and resilient distributed systems and/or software platforms
  • Experience as a technical lead, overseeing the work of multiple engineers and multiple teams on multi-quarter projects
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and upleveling engineering culture and practices
  • Ability to communicate technical complexity and help facilitate informed tradeoffs
  • Willingness to collaborate across different functions
  • An aptitude and interest in bringing clarity and simplicity to complex and ambiguous problems
  • Nice, but not required:
    • Experience in the Fintech industry building scalable backend systems to power financial services and products

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at  $250,000-270,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. $215,000-231,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
