šŸ‘©ā€šŸ’» The role

Are you looking to combine your writing skills with your love of learning new technologies? Are you as comfortable on the command line as you are writing clear and effective copy? If so, we'd love to talk to you.

The Developer Advocate - Technical Storytelling role is a key position in GitBook's marketing team. Youā€™ll play a crucial role in creating engaging guides, high-quality documentation, and informative video content for a highly technical audience of developers, technical writers and product folks.

Additionally, you'll work closely with Developer Relations to build a vibrant and engaged community by leading engagement and advocacy across events, forums and social.

If you are a technical writer or developer with a knack for creating engaging technical content (tutorials, explainers, how-toā€™s, and more), and have a knack for building an engaged community, we'd love to meet you.

šŸ’Ŗ What will you be doing

  • Technical Content Development:

    • Guide the education and adoption of GitBook across the industry through technical content specifically tailored for developers, technical writers and product folks.

    • Own the creation and distribution of high-quality technical content such as docs, guides, reports, tutorials, and webinars.

    • Collaborate with the Content Lead to develop programs and content highlighting new features and use cases for GitBook.

  • Community Engagement:

    • Work with Developer Relations to build a community around GitBook by fostering relationships with developers, open-source communities, and key influencers.

    • Drive awareness across technical forums and social media, and promote best practices and solutions that resonate with the community.

    • Represent GitBook at high-visibility events, delivering talks and engaging with community members.

    • Gather and share feedback from the technical community on GitBookā€™s platform, user experiences, and emerging needs.

šŸ«¶You will be valued for

Your technical writing. You are a technical content writer or developer with a knack for creating engaging technical content (tutorials, explainers, how-toā€™s, and more), and possess the ability to explain complex topics in a clear and accessible manner.

Becoming our customerā€™s champion. You understand the customerā€™s goals, create content and advocacy programs that meets those goals, and advocate on behalf of customers in product development processes.

Being a team player. You collaboratively partner with Marketing, Product, and Engineering team members to create the best content and community solutions.

Your entrepreneurial spirit. You enjoy looking at problems with a fresh perspective, and devising and testing multiple solutions until you find the best fit.

Your passion about the role that great documentation plays in a product ecosystem.

āœØ What's next?

First, we will take the time to review your application and we will get back to you within a week, regardless of our decision. We know that your time is valuable so we work to move the process along quickly and keep it casual. We're not believers in "gotcha" questions or checking for skills you'll never actually use at GitBook.

For this role specifically, candidates will be asked to share past writing samples.

Here's what our process will look like:

  1. Screening interview with our People Team to look for healthy alignment (30 minutes)

  2. Interview with the Head of Marketing to learn more about your experience and technical skills (45 minutes)

  3. Interview with marketing team peers team to learn more about projects you've worked on and challenges you've faced while at it (Content, DevRel and Brand) - 45 minutes

  4. Final meet & greet with CEO (30 min)

šŸ‘„ join GitBook

You will be joining during a pivotal moment for GitBook. We've enjoyed great success since we were founded, and now we're taking conscious steps to take our company to the next level. That means you will have the opportunity to build, positively impact the trajectory of the company and enjoy the benefits of helping grow our company 20x. Every single team member is a value addition to our culture, so it's important for us to state our cultural principles:

  • šŸ— Keep it simple
