Applewood Village is seeking a dedicated and reliable cook to join our Assisted Living Culinary Team. The Cook plays a vital role in preparing meals for our residents as well as ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for meal preparation and service. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a passion for supporting the well-being of our residents.
Essential Functions:- Review menus and production estimates and prepare menu items following standard recipes.
- Extend or reduce recipes to reflect production estimates.
- Prepare modified diets for residents according to diet orders.
- Clean and sanitize worktables, ovens, griddles, mixers and other equipment after each use.
- Clean assigned items on cleaning schedules.
- Ensure proper disposal of food waste and recyclables.
- Ensure food storage areas are clean and organized.
- May help with unloading and stocking food deliveries.
- Report any malfunctions or safety hazards to the Kitchen Manager.
- Follow all safety and sanitation procedures according to company and health department standards.
- Ensure compliance with dietary restrictions and preferences of residents.
- Work closely with all kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
- Assist in other areas of the kitchen as needed.
- May act as "PIC" (person in charge) in the absence of the Culinary Services Director.
Requirements:- Previous experience in a healthcare kitchen environment is preferred.
- Ability to follow a standardized recipe.
- Knowledge of varied food preparation & cooking techniques.
- Knowledge of cleaning basic kitchen equipment and procedures.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
