The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Digital Evidence Specialist in its High-Tech Analysis Unit (HTAU). In this position the Digital Evidence Specialist is responsible for securing, documenting, and preserving electronic evidence, and for utilizing forensically sound methods and procedures to support ongoing criminal investigations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform evidence intake functions and serve as the primary caretaker of digital evidence received by the Computer Forensics lab.
- Prepare case evidence documentation, label, and photograph incoming evidence, and prepare case files.
- Schedule intake appointments and requests for evidence return.
- Perform data entry functions by logging evidence into the unit’s case tracking system.
- Generate and maintain all documentation regarding the chain of custody of digital evidence.
- Disassemble, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware.
- Conduct periodic inventories of evidence storage facility.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed for forensic lab and its personnel.
In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, candidates must possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
Preferred Requirements/Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
- Ability to update and edit existing proprietary databases.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
- Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
- Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment, self-motivated, and able to multi-task.
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff, law enforcement representatives, and outside visitors.
- Superior organizational, time management, writing and communication skills are essential.
- Readiness to learn about and adapt to rapid changes in technology and computer forensics procedures.
- Experience with Microsoft database skills strongly preferred (please note on cover letter).
