Job Description

**Applicants must be permanent in the title of Accountant.

The mission of the New York Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in our City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Narcotics Borough Queens South seeks a qualified Accountant Level I or Level II to assist with Department operations.

The Accountant will, under general supervision, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgement, in addition to performing the duties of Assignment Level I, performs difficult and responsible work in accounting and auditing or supervises a clearly differentiated accounting unit or auditing group comprising a substantial accounting staff.

The lateral opportunity Is open to current Accounts only. Applicants' time and leave records, disciplinary records and performance evaluations will be reviewed and taken into consideration. If selected, a Commanding Officer's recommendation Is needed prior to the transfer.


NOTE: This position is open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a program. Please indicate in your cover letter that you would like to be considered for the position under the 55-a program.

The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loan after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full time for a qualifying employer, such as a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organization. You may be able to consolidate a Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) and Federal Perkins Loan into a Direct Loan to qualify for PSLF.

In compliance with Federal Law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or
2. A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.
