Life as a Data Scientist at City Electrical Factors:


As a Data Scientist at City IT, you’ll be at the forefront of data-driven decision-making, shaping commercial strategies and optimising operational efficiency.


You will work in a collaborative environment, influencing key stakeholders and applying advanced machine learning techniques to solve real-world business challenges. You will be expected to explore large datasets, apply advanced machine learning techniques, and translate complex findings into actionable business recommendations.

Your Objectives:
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Engage with business stakeholders to educate and demonstrate the impact of data-driven decision-making 
  • Develop and Implement Solutions: Build and deploy machine learning solutions to address key business challenges and improve operational efficiency.
  • Communicate Complex Insights: Present statistical concepts and findings in an accessible way to non-technical audiences, driving data-informed decision-making.
  • Drive Business Impact: Leverage data science to recommend and implement innovative solutions that deliver tangible commercial value.
  • Contribute High-Quality Code: Write robust Python code and contribute to packages that benefit the broader data science and analytical community. 


Key Skills and Experience:
  • Proven track record in a data science role with experience in model development and business optimisation.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing algorithms and data structures in Python for data science applications. 
  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices, including data access, management, version control tools, reproducibility, and interpretability. 
  • Proficiency with visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau, and the ability to convey insights through compelling data narratives. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams.


Beneficial Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Physics, Econometrics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in solving problems using machine learning, either academically (with relevant publications) or commercially. 
  • Deep understanding of probability distributions, statistical significance, hypothesis testing, and regression. 
  • Experience working with cloud-based data solutions 
  • Knowledge of Algorithms and Frameworks
  • SQL Proficiency: Skilled in building end-to-end data pipelines and combining data from multiple sources


Location:
  • Whilst this role is predominantly home based, you must be willing to travel to Durham and other UK sites as and when required.
