Bustle Digital Group is looking for a highly qualified attorney to join its legal team as an Associate Counsel, Legal Affairs. This key strategic resource will report into the Director, Legal Affairs and provide legal advice, counsel, and representation in connection with negotiation, drafting, and management of agreements for a broad range of topics and commercial transactions.
Responsibilities- Analyze contracts in response to business questions, and provide advice and research information to business executives and senior attorney to assist with business decisions.
- Perform legal review of video and editorial content.
- Research various legal issues, including intellectual property, defamation, fair use, contract law, privacy and data security, advertising, and employment law, and provide clear recommendations to internal staff.
- Review, draft, analyze, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including, without limitation, content licensing agreements, distribution agreements, photographer and production agreements (video content, editorial content, photographic content), talent agreements, event and hospitality agreements, master service agreements, adtech agreements, equipment rental agreements, and independent contractor agreements.
- Assist with updating internal contract templates.
- Liaise with Outside Counsel as needed.
Experience / Education- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school required.
- Must be a member in good standing of the New York bar.
- Minimum of 1-4 years of prior transactional legal experience.
- Experience directly related to licensing of media properties, entertainment, music, rights clearances, content review, insertion orders, and production and distribution of content and digital media is a plus.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and analytical skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to respond to and interact with senior-level creative and business executives in a professional, articulate, personable, and helpful manner.
- Proficient with MS Office and document review, editing, and redlining; experience with contract management software (Ironclad) preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a high volume under tight deadlines.
- A demonstrated ability to work independently while serving a variety of departments within the company.
$80,000 - $95,000 a year
This position offers a hybrid work model, with candidates expected to be based in the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) for occasional in-office meetings and collaboration.
This clarifies that while remote work is an option, being located in the Tri-State area is essential for any in-person requirements.
