Backflip is seeking a Loan Processor to execute the lending process from term sheet through final review completion. Backflip originates real estate investment loans (not consumer loans). As an early addition to this team, this individual will play a critical role in ensuring Backflip has a best-in-class processing operation that is borrower-friendly, detail oriented, operationally efficient, organized and designed to scale.


This position is remote (U.S.) and a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor (~75 person team) working directly with senior leaders in a well-capitalized startup with a great culture (Check out our recently announced $15M Series A).


What You’ll Do:
  • Process mortgage loan originations for residential investment properties in compliance with Backflip’s Credit Policy
  • Manage third parties to collect and verify documents + complete pre-closing requirements (title companies, appraisers, etc.)
  • Ensure an exceptional Member Experience by providing proactive communication on the status of their loan and timely responses to questions during loan processing
  • Communicate effectively across the teams involved in the funnel (sales, underwriting, closing, post-closing)
  • Review and analyze documents against Backflip’s Credit Policy; flag and mitigate discrepancies
  • Help Backflip’s Capital Markets team clear conditions and sell loans to third party investors
  • Contribute to the further implementations of standard operating procedures designed to scale operations in harmony with other departments
  • Enliven the company culture to ensure we deliver on our mission to the members and our peers
  • Other duties as assigned, including cross-departmental projects and initiatives


Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in mortgage loan processing, including coordinating with 3rd parties (title companies, appraisers, etc.)
  • 1+ year of remote work experience in  a customer facing role
  • Prior closing experience is a plus
  • Experience with short-term bridge loans or construction loans is a plus
  • Prior experience in a customer facing role and ability to offer an elevated customer experience
  • Interest in real estate investing and excited about understanding our member’s investment journey
  • Prior work at a high-growth start-up is a plus
  • Experience with real estate renovations and project management is a plus
  • General understanding of basic real estate investment concepts (or demonstrated desire to learn); comfortable performing basic math calculations
  • Exemplary computer skills - demonstrated ability and desire to learn new technologies (we use Slack + Notion + Google Workspace + Front + HubSpot + more)
  • Basic spreadsheet skills (Excel; Google Sheets)

Compensation for this role includes a $70,000 annual salary with a monthly productivity bonus, and is based on a variety of factors including prior experience, geographic location, stock option grant, and other factors, and may fall outside of the stated range for certain candidates. In addition to a competitive market salary, Backflip employees receive equity stock options, paid health care, and a 401K + company match, among other industry-leading benefits.
