Role Summary 
 
A Network Operations Engineer is responsible for the high-level support and maintenance of a network infrastructure. They play a crucial role in ensuring network reliability, security, and optimal performance.
 
Key Responsibilities 
 
  • Network Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving network issues, such as outages, connectivity problems, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Network Security: Implementing and maintaining robust security measures to protect the network from cyber threats.
  • Network Design: Contributing to the design and implementation of network solutions, including hardware and software configurations.
  • Network Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance tasks, such as software updates and hardware upgrades.
  • Documentation: Creating and maintaining detailed documentation of network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Training: Providing training to junior staff on network operations and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Customer Support: Resolving customer issues related to network problems.
  • Project Collaboration: Working with IT teams on various projects, providing network expertise and support.
 
Required Skills and Qualifications 
 
  •  Technical Skills: Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, etc.), routing, switching, and network security.
  •  Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze complex network issues and identify effective solutions.
  •  Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical teams.
  •  Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  •  Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  •  Experience: Several years of experience in network operations and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with Meraki and Fortinet products (FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiClient EMS)
 
Additional Responsibilities for a Senior Network Operations Engineer 
 
  • Incident Response: Leading incident response teams during network outages or security breaches.
  • Operational Excellence: Driving initiatives to improve network efficiency and reliability.
  •  Change Management: Overseeing network changes to minimize disruptions.
  •  Team Leadership: Managing and mentoring junior network engineers.
  •  Automation: Developing and implementing automation scripts to streamline network tasks.
  •  Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating potential network risks.
 
Minimum Qualifications 
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Network certifications, e.g. CCNA certification
  • 8 + years of work experience operating, deploying, and designing large-scale network, optical, and/or physical layer infrastructure.
  • 8 + years of network operations experience while supporting large-scale service provider, datacenter, and/or enterprise network infrastructure, monitoring tools
  • Communication skills: demonstrated experience to effectively engage with hardware vendors, service providers, and colocation facility vendors globally and effectively translate performance issues into technical engineering requirements.
  • Analyzing tactical situations, troubleshooting, root causing systems and tools, and problem solving via tasks or larger cross functional projects.
  • Subject matter expertise with physical infrastructure design: rack elevations, cable types, connector types, optic types, patch panels, and facility infrastructure.
  • Expertise with physical data center design: rack elevations, cabling, fiber optics, power/cooling, and facility infrastructure.
  • Experience with network hardware platforms and architectures including
  • Working knowledge of internet networking technologies (TCP/IP, routing, switching) and optical transport technologies

 

Compensation: $89k-$134k/annual salary & bonus eligible
