ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish.


Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.


POSITION SUMMARY:

World Relief annually serves over 300 adult learners at every stage of their language journey, including career specific language classes, job readiness for newly arrived refugees and asylees, mainstream English studies, and English tutoring. The role of the Student Success Coach & Program Coordinator is to assist students with successful completion outcomes by providing proactive outreach, mentoring, and intervention using a variety of communication methods.  The role also involves facilitating student registrations, standardized assessments, recording and organizing program data, maintaining program equipment, assisting with grant writing, reporting and program development, and providing student referral services.


This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement until March 31, 2026 and contingent upon funding extension.


ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Student Success Coaching: 
  • Help students remove barriers by serving as a resource-expert, connecting them to needed services and collaborating with instructors and student support staff to identify strategies for assisting students in successful language acquisition and career development
  • Foster persistence and course completion by coaching a caseload of diverse students
  • Conduct coaching and mentoring for students to develop and accomplish personal, professional, and academic goals through individual and/or group sessions
  • Motivate students to take ownership of their success inside and outside of the classroom, and to serve as a catalyst to build each student’s intrinsic motivation to succeed
  • Develop a meaningful rapport with assigned students and provide ongoing feedback via Zoom, email, text message, and in-person appointments, using qualified interpreters depending on student language level
  • Refer graduating and transitioning students to appropriate career and academic services offered by other community-based programs and community colleges
  • Assess student needs and connect them to internal and local resources
  • Communicate regularly and partner with Adult Education, Workforce Development, Case Management, and other staff regarding student progress, to identify course specific strategies that promote student success, and identify critical barriers that could impact retention and course completion
  • Research and catalog community resources and communicate with partner institutions regarding program information, resources, and referrals   
  • Take students on tours of local community colleges as needed 
  • Evaluate, document, and report on student academic participation and progress

  • Program Coordination:  
  • Lead potential students through in-person and online class registrations
  • Administer standardized student assessments in-person and online and assign students to appropriate class levels 
  • Provide technical assistance to students and instructional staff
  • Communicate with students regarding attendance and policy non-compliance   
  • Document and maintain program case notes, data, and databases
  • Review department files and data regularly to ensure they are complete and accurate
  • Utilize online software to help maintain and organize online learning accounts
  • Maintain proper care of program materials and equipment
  • Promote programs and class registrations in the community through various recruitment initiatives and in collaboration with other departments at World Relief
  • Collaborate with staff and community partners to ensure quality holistic services and referrals are provided
  • Provide clear and timely communication with staff, students, and community partners
  • Engage in program evaluation, planning, and development
  • Assist with grant writing and grant reporting
  • Flex schedule as needed to accommodate students needing support in the evenings 
  • Participate in all required professional development as well as state and regional collaboration meetings
  • Participate in all scheduled staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned


JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in education, human services, counseling or other related fields
  • At least one year’s experience in the field of Adult Education, preferably as a Student Success Coach or equivalent (Academic Advisor, Transitions Coordinator, etc.}   
  • Ability to flex hours to work some evenings and to meet with students before or after classes

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and cross-cultural skills
  • Effective at encouraging and guiding others in setting clear and appropriate goals
  • Above average technology and digital literacy skills 
  • Ability to effectively utilize interpretation services
  • Flexible and collaborative 


$24 - $29 an hour
