About the team

The Data Platform team supercharges the acquisition, storage, preparation, delivery and consumption of data at Wealthsimple. We take ownership of our Data Warehousing, Data Orchestration Tooling, Data Transformation tooling, BI Tooling, Data Catalog & Data Governance, among others. We are a growing, diverse team that are fundamental to some of Wealthsimple’s bigger business objectives this year. About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will play a huge role in our Data Warehouse transition onto Snowflake, joining us in our first phase of migration. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with many different partners within Wealthsimple, regularly solving a range of different technical challenges, and empowering those teams to evolve their systems. Finally, you’ll continue to maintain technical excellence across our current tools and systems such as Snowflake, Datahub, Preset, DBT, SQL Mesh and more. As the role evolves, you’ll take on further projects to hit our ambitious goals in 2025, providing mentorship and coaching to our partners and team, and creating a highly reliable and performant Data Platform!

• Support big project initiatives, which is currently our migration from Redshift to Snowflake
• Scope, design and build services, tools and infrastructure in our data platform across a variety of domains and tech stacks
• Help set the vision and lead development efforts in a given domain on our Data Platform, ideally in Data Cataloging, Transformation or BI Tooling
• Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, Software Developers, and stakeholders across the business to understand data needs and deliver bespoke solutions
• Be a coach and mentor to others on best practices in data for both the direction of our platform and for the users of our platform

• Deep technical experience in data platforming having previously shipped at least one project at scale. Bonus points for Data Cataloging, Data Transformation or BI Tooling experience!
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, and proven experience using these languages to deliver scalable data tooling or frameworks
• Proven ability to establish, practice and implement software engineering best practices such as test driven development and continuous integration/deployment
• A collaborative and open approach to communication: you are experienced in delivering clear, concise and solution-focused messages, that are easily understood by a cross-discipline team
• A passion for mentorship: you love empowering other developers while learning new skills
• Technical and communicational skills to dive into a multitude of code bases, across different languages and domains spanning front-end to back-end to infrastructure
