About the Role

The PR & Comms Manager will drive compelling communications and content strategies across all SXSW Sydney channels, collaborating with programming teams, PR agencies, and brand partners to showcase the event's unique offerings. The role combines exceptional copywriting, stakeholder management, and strategic partnership development to amplify the event's message and drive attendance through targeted communications initiatives.

Please note - this is a mid-level marketing manager position with remuneration commensurate with that and the Event industry.

What does a day in the life look like?

Content Development & Programming Support

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Programming teams to identify and develop compelling stories driven by Speakers, Artists, Games and Screen Program
  • Create narratives that highlight the unique value proposition of the diverse programming

PR Agency Management

  • Brief and coordinate PR Agencies, ensuring alignment with overall marketing strategy
  • Organise and facilitate interviews between media, talent and program team members
  • Provide monthly reporting on PR activities, outcomes and media coverage

Copywriting & Content Creation

  • Produce high-quality copy across multiple platforms including:
    • Email campaigns
    • Website content and blog posts
    • Media releases
    • Partner publications and advertorials
    • Collateral materials
    • Social media posts and assets

Brand Partnership Support

  • Work with key Brand Partners to effectively integrate and amplify their messaging through SXSW Sydney channels
  • Ensure brand partner content meets SXSW Sydney standards and partner objectives

Attendance Growth Initiatives

  • Identify and optimise opportunities to drive attendance through strategic collaboration with trade and industry partners
  • Develop and implement pass offers and content sharing initiatives with new and existing partners through both organisations’ owned and earned channels.

About you

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary marketing qualifications
  • 3 or more years of experience working independently in a similar role
  • Proven experience in PR and marketing for events, entertainment or creative industries
  • Exceptional copywriting skills with ability to adapt tone and style across different platforms and to appeal to different audiences.
  • Strong project management abilities and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, even when under pressure.
  • Experience managing external agencies and reporting on outcomes
  • Creative problem-solving approach with ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter, takes initiative and prioritizes
  • Comfortable driving action when there is ambiguity

Key Considerations:

This role requires you to:

  • work outside of normal business hours during the event week, and on the weekends immediately prior and during the event.
  • work with global teams across varied time zones eg Austin, London, India, Japan.
  • work to an agreed scope of work to deliver event milestones, which may include working outside of business hours at times.
