Public Prep offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, qualifications, and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $67,000-$89,898. Primary Function & Position Overview:

Visual Arts Teachers must consistently plan for and monitor the progress of each of their students. Visual Arts Teachers meet regularly with grade level teachers, school leaders, and other specials teachers in order to build on the existing Public Prep arts curriculum, which is inclusive of New York State standards. Visual Arts Teachers are responsible for creating robust and interdisciplinary units for students through this collaboration. Visual Arts Instructors also work closely with School Aides, who provide non-academic support.

Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Teaching students to work in a variety of media while teaching rigorous principles of composition in a way that supports individual creative expression
    • Ordering art materials
    • Researching and teaching software for graphic design and video storytelling
    • Arranging and conducting art exhibitions per school year.
    • Designing school and community art installations that promote creative collaboration and make our environment more personalized.
    • Implementing strategies that maximize their own performance and that of their students.
    • Delivering and receiving continuous feedback and evaluation for themselves and students based on the development of individualized goals for performance
    • Collaborating with all team members
    • Maintaining records of students’ academic progress, behavior, and character development
    • Communicating with families and building community with them through annual home visits and other school events
    • Attending IEP meeting and ensuring appropriate accommodations are given to students during assessments as needed
    • Completing duties as assigned by the Principal to support and strengthen the community such as breakfast, lunch, or dismissal duty

    • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • An M.A., Ed.M or Master’s degree in relevant content area
    • New York State Dual Certification strongly preferred
    • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time classroom Visual Arts Instructor preferred
    • Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, urban school setting preferred
    • Evidence of excellence in teaching through continuous learning and data analysis
    • Exceptional organization and planning skills
    • Superior communication skills
    • An ability to work collaboratively
    • A commitment to single-sex education
    • Fluency in Spanish preferred
