Job details

Product QA Engineer II

The sweetgreen Infinite Kitchen automates the assembly of sweetgreen meals for restaurant guests. Designed and built entirely in-house, the Infinite Kitchen powers locations across the country.

We're hiring a Product QA Engineer II to help ensure the reliability, accuracy, and safety of the systems that power our automated kitchens.

We're looking for a sharp, detail-obsessed Product QA Engineer II to join the Automation Team in our Charlestown, MA office. You'll work alongside software engineers and designers to deeply understand our systems, test new features, organize product specs, document expected behaviors, and flag inconsistencies. You'll be the connection between development and deployment—ensuring what's specified gets built, and what gets built actually works.

This role is ideal for someone with a technical mindset and strong organizational skills who may eventually want to grow into a product management or systems analyst role. You’ll need curiosity, persistence, and an eye for edge cases to help guide the evolution of our robotics and automation systems.

You will work very closely with our lead product designer, who defines the specs and user experience for our internal tools and interfaces.

What You'll Do

  • Understand and Validate Core Systems: Test our robotics system and digital products that power the Infinite Kitchen—ensuring it can reliably startup, assemble meals, and handle peak loads like a lunch rush without failure.

  • Test Interface Applications: Validate functionality across multiple iPad apps used by store team members, including remote control tools for cleaning and order management apps.

  • Organize QA Workflows: Help create and execute structured test plans. Ensure each new feature or change is fully vetted in realistic conditions before hitting production.

  • Track and Report: Maintain detailed records of bugs, edge cases, and unexpected behaviors. Own parts of the spec and documentation libraries and keep them up to date.

  • Support Releases: Be hands-on during release cycles—test new builds in staging, validate in our office lab, and contribute go/no-go recommendations to ensure stability across our restaurants.

  • Join Rotational Support Shifts: Help support restaurants by being on call for three days, 5 times a year

  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with engineers and stakeholders to deeply understand the systems being built, their edge cases, and key constraints. Partner closely with our product managers to align test coverage with intended product specs and user experience.

  • Champion Product Quality: Hold the line on what “done” really means. Be the voice for end-to-end reliability, clarity, and polish.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in QA, technical product support, or systems testing

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Comfort managing complex systems with many edge cases

  • Ability to read and understand engineering and product specs and translate them into meaningful test plans

  • Clear, structured communication skills—both written and verbal

  • Familiarity with QA practices including manual testing, exploratory testing, and writing detailed bug reports

  • A curiosity-driven mindset and tenacity for troubleshooting tricky, intermittent issues

Bonus

  • Exposure to robotics, industrial automation, or mechatronic systems

  • Experience with Jira or similar tools to organize and track detailed test artifacts

  • Interest in product management, systems thinking, or operations design

  •

Location:
Based at sweetgreen's Boston Automation office in Charlestown, MA.
