Riverdale Country School, a Pre-K through Grade 12 independent all-gender school in New York City, is dedicated to inspiring students to live meaningful and purpose-driven lives. Riverdale is seeking a talented individual who will serve as the head varsity lacrosse coach.


The season begins on February 19th and concludes with a final regular-season contest on May 12th. The season could be extended depending on ranking within the New York State Association of Independent Schools Playoffs (championship game is May 21st).


Weekday practices run from 3:30-5:45 with contests taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Riverdale is fortunate to be one of the few New York City independent schools to be able to practice and compete on an on-campus stadium-sized synthetic field.


The head lacrosse coach will oversee most aspects of the program while managing an established staff of three assistant coaches. Previous high school or collegiate coaching experience is a must with special consideration given to those individuals with previous head coaching experience.


The candidate must be able to fuse technical and tactical aspects of the game toward a level of success that is representative of the student-athlete potential while creating a physically safe and psychologically supportive environment.


Expectations/ Requirements
  • Computer Literacy (email, texting Google drives)
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification 
  • CDC “Heads Up” Concussion On-Line Course
  • Current and/or updated Physical Exam
  • Pre-employment background check and fingerprinting required


$5,000 - $10,000 one-time
Salary is commensurate with experience.

As a part-time employee, coaches are not eligible for full-time benefits at Riverdale Country School. The Athletics Department does offer professional development opportunities to coaches who are interested.

Professional Development: A generous professional-development budget provides for conferences, skills training, and onsite training in areas such as mindfulness, coaching, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.


Grants and Stipends: All employees are eligible for Frankel Fellow grants, known as “passion grants,” which pay for enrichment activities. More than 120 grants have been made to faculty and staff since the program started in 2014. Stipends are available for coaching, affinity group facilitation, advising clubs with significant out-of-school time, and chaperoning trips (including global trips!).


Sabbatical:  Full time teaching faculty are eligible for a sabbatical after 10 years of employment.  


Health Benefits: Riverdale offers and subsidizes health, dental, and vision insurance.  In addition, the school offers a flexible spending account through which employees can use pre-tax dollars to pay for health-related expenses.  


Retirement:  Employees are eligible to join our Defined Contribution retirement plan through TIAA.  The school contributes 7% of an employee's annual salary to their retirement account.  


Vacation:  Riverdale Country School has a generous time-off policy for staff in addition to vacations afforded by the school calendar.
