Description:
• Provide accurate translation and/or editing of documents and/or transcription of audio files involving l aw enforcement, forensic, and legal subject matter from the foreign language to/from English.
• Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms.
• Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the source language.
• Excellent written communication skills in English and the source foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale.
• Translate and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards.
• Use domain-specific terminology.
• Review and certify the quality of other translators’ work, as needed.
• Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio.
• Abide by a code of ethics when performing transcription and translation work.
Requirements:
• Must be willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance Moderate Level.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in LEGAL translating and/or editing between English and a foreign language.
• At least 3 years of experience performing audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription.
• Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the source foreign language(s).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as SDL Trados .
