Why This Role Matters: As a Bilingual Health Care Assistant (HCA) at PPSAT, you are the first welcoming face our patients see, setting the tone for a compassionate and inclusive experience. You’ll play a vital role in supporting both our patients and providers by ensuring seamless front and back-office operations, assisting with in-office procedures, performing blood draws, and providing essential patient education. This is an opportunity to make a real impact in reproductive health care while working in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. 


Schedule:  

Full-time position working Tuesday through Saturday at the following schedule: 

Tuesday: 8:30PM – 4:00PM 

Wednesday: 8:30PM – 4:00PM 

Thursday: 7:30PM – 3:00PM 

Friday: 7:30PM – 3:00PM 

Saturday: 7:30PM – 3:00PM 

 

All staff are expected to remain at the health center until all patients are checked out, documentation is completed, and the health center is cleaned.

What You’ll Do:
  • Your responsibilities will be dynamic and meaningful, up to and including (but not limited to): 
  • Maintaining accurate and complete documentation, including patient charts and logs. 
  • Providing patient education in a compassionate, non-judgmental manner on reproductive and sexual health topics. 
  • Verifying and interpreting insurance benefits, both electronically and over the phone. 
  • Assisting clinicians with patient referrals and appointment scheduling. 
  • Handling incoming calls, scheduling appointments, and providing information about PPSAT services. 
  • Explaining clinic fees, insurance coverage, and payment options to patients. 
  • Managing patient payments, reconciling daily transactions, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. 
  • Ensuring all necessary forms and patient consents are completed efficiently and accurately. 
  • Assisting with medication distribution following health center procedures. 
  • Supporting the health center’s operations by maintaining supplies and equipment. 
  • Participating in electronic health record (EHR) documentation and other patient record systems.
  • Collaborating with your team to meet productivity and patient satisfaction goals. 
  • Performing laboratory duties, including specimen collection, lab equipment maintenance, blood draws, and quality control procedures. 
  • Sterilizing medical instruments to maintain a safe and clean environment. 
  • Taking on additional projects and responsibilities as needed. 


What You’ll Bring:
  • Bilingual in Spanish - passing the Bilingual Proficiency Assessment required before hire
  • high school diploma or GED (minimum requirement). 
  • Willingness to obtain CPR certification within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to complete all required organizational training within designated timeframes. 
  • Prior customer service experience, preferably in a health care setting
  • A strong understanding of and commitment to PPSAT’s mission and values
  • Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Proficiency in reading, inputting, retrieving, and analyzing data. 
  • Comfort using office equipment such as computers, printers, fax machines, and phones.

Compensation:   

All HCA's start at $21.50 an hour and are eligible for periodic pay-increases based on tenure and skill checkoffs.  PPSAT's compensation philosophy is based in equity and transparency. The HCA Tier Program intends to maintain and promote internal equity, transparency, and skill growth. 


Bilingual Skill - This position requires passing the Bilingual Assessment. Those who pass the Bilingual Assessment are eligible for an additional $1.00 added to their base rate.
