Clinical Nurse Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY


The Clinical Nurse Supervisor at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) is responsible for leading and supporting nursing staff within region 1 (NYC and Nassau County), ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care.


This role provides direct supervision, operational oversight, and clinical education to nurses and clinical staff working in procedural abortion services and sexual reproductive health. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor plays a key role in staff education, workflow efficiency, infection prevention and regulatory compliance, while fostering a culture of professional growth, mentorship and collaboration. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor collaborates with key stakeholders across departments in the delivery of sexual and reproductive health services across the continuum of care, including abortion and gender affirming health care.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Supervisory and Administrative (70%) Direct Patient Care (30%)

Clinical Leadership & Operations:

Oversee the daily operations of procedural abortion services, ensuring optimal patient flow, staff efficiency, and resource utilization.

Maintain compliance with clinical policies, protocols, and regulatory requirements (e.g., state laws, OSHA, NYSDOH, PPFA).

Monitor and enforce infection control, sterilization, and medication safety protocols

Serve as the primary clinical resource for staff, troubleshooting issues and providing direct patient care, as needed.

Conduct quality audits and implement performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction and nursing performance.


Staff Supervision & Education:

Conducts needs analysis of competency gaps and assign appropriate training as needed.

Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to nurses and unlicensed clinical staff.

Develop and implement training programs to ensure clinical competency, procedural proficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Conduct ongoing training, education, and skills assessments to support staff development.

Oversee orientation programs for new hires and oversee annual competency assessments.

Promote a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and accountability.


Collaboration & Communication:

Work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and administrative teams to ensure seamless service delivery.

Act as a liaison between clinical staff, leadership, and other departments to enhance collaboration and workflow efficiency.

Address and resolve staff concerns, performance issues, and conflicts in a timely and professional manner.

Communicate updates regarding policies, best practices, and regulatory changes to the clinical team.


Patient-Centered Care & Advocacy:

Ensure a compassionate, non-judgmental, and inclusive environment for patients.

Promote trauma-informed care principles to enhance the patient experience.

Address patient concerns and complaints, ensuring appropriate resolution and follow-up.

Fast-paced clinical setting with direct patient care responsibilities.

May require weekend shifts and clinical coverage, as needed

Travel to Region 1 clinical sites as needed for clinical oversight


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree (MSN, MPH, or related field) preferred.

Licensure: Current and unrestricted NY State RN license

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, preferably in women’s health, gynecological & obstetrics care, reproductive health, women’s health, or abortion care; at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role or Charge RN.

Certifications: BLS and ACLS required

$130,000 - $140,000 a year

Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season and Covid-19) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.
