PPCCC is a trusted provider of high-quality, affordable reproductive health care along California’s Central Coast. Each year, PPCCC provides 35,000 people on the central coast with health care services; including sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, vasectomies, and safe and legal abortion care at our six health center locations. PPCCC also provides comprehensive sexuality education programs to help adults and teens make healthy decisions, prevent unintended pregnancies, and avoid sexually transmitted infection.

JOB SUMMARY:       

The PPCCC registered nurse I (RN I) works in collaboration with other members of the health care team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based sexual and reproductive care that is patient-centered and helps address community and nationwide concerns. The PPCCC RN I will often work in case management where they will triage patient calls, notify patients of abnormal results, and coordinate care or other medical care needs. The RN I’s clinical responsibilities will focus on procedural clinics including abortion and vasectomy services where they will provide pre and post assessment and evaluation under the direct supervision of the physician or advanced practice clinician provider. Less frequently, the RN will provide hormonal contraceptives, sexually transmitted infection screening/treatments, and immunizations according to standardized procedures. Additional responsibilities include training and supervision of non-licensed medical professionals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

-Document patient data accurately and completely in the medical record. Perform physical exams.

-Provide information and education regarding reproductive health care.

-Dispense/administer medications and contraceptive devices as per physician/clinician or standing orders.

-Screen and administer immunizations per standardized procedure.

-Perform pre-operative assessment of patients desiring abortion care and performance of preoperative labs.

-Provide preoperative care of vasectomy patients, including provision of minimal sedation.

-Provide recovery care and assessment for abortion and vasectomy patients including assessment of status, education and counseling on discharge orders.

-Provide intramuscular injections, blood draws, and vitals.

-Provide laboratory tests as needed, including phlebotomy. Monitor lab reconciliation process per policy.

-Perform common CLIA-waived clinic labs(urine pregnancy tests, rapid HIV).

-Perform routine emergency cart use inventory and maintenance.

-Manage emergency situations as they arise in the center and consult with other licensed providers as necessary.

-Manage medication inventory including ordering, confirmation of expiration dates when stocking and administering medications. With second licensed professional, perform narcotic counts and investigate and report any discrepancies.

-Adhere to Planned Parenthood California Central Coast written medical protocols which incorporate all State, Federal, PPFA and PPCCC policies, procedures, and guidelines approved by the Medical Director and the PPCCC Medical Committee of the Board of Directors.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

-Current Active RN license valid in California 

-Current BLS Certification

-Current ACLS certification, or willing to obtain

-Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows work environment. 

-English-Spanish bilingual skills desirable.

Planned Parenthood California Central Coast’s (PPCCC’s) compensation philosophy supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Each position has a salary based on market value and the organization’s pay levels.  Starting pay is $48.24. As part of our commitment to pay equity, PPCCC does not negotiate salaries.

Pay Differential: $1.00/hour bilingual Spanish/English differential pay is offered upon passing the language assessment test.
