Associate Director, New Business Development
Reports to EVP, Growth Strategy
Job Summary
Associate Director New Business Development identifies and delivers outbound/selling activities according to OPEN Health Medical Communications' new business strategies to achieve financial sales targets. This involves cultivating a network of global biopharmaceutical and biotech clients across medical affairs and marketing functions and working closely with key internal OPEN Health Medical Communications leadership to drive successful new business growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Associate Director New Business Development is responsible for leading outbound selling activities across the breadth of medical communications, marketing, and promotional medical education services offered by OPEN Health’s Medical Communications Center of Excellence (COE). Targeted clients will have both global and US/EMEA/regional remit. Responsibilities include:
- Working autonomously to identify and cultivate new business relationships with targeted clients, often without prior introduction or awareness of OPEN Health
- Building strong relationships with biopharmaceutical procurement leads to ensure successful collaboration and secure RFPs, with a goal of obtaining 1-2 new RFPs monthly
- Fostering close partnerships and collaboration with key internal Medical Communications COE stakeholders, under the guidance of the EVP of Growth Strategy, in the US and UK, and effectively aligning all outbound sales activities with the COEs new business teams' strategies, objectives, and initiatives
- Partnering with broader OPEN Health Group (OHG) New Business Development and Marketing teams to collaboratively identify and progress new business opportunities and ensure alignment with broader new business strategies
- Reviewing market trends to best anticipate and determine client needs
- Communicating changing market dynamics that influence sales and growth opportunities including pipeline shifts, mergers and acquisitions, and other competitor changes to maintain a competitive edge and adjust strategies accordingly
- Traveling to conferences, client meetings, and other events with the intention of expanding your client network, generating new business leads and opportunities and positioning OHG as an industry leader
- Tracking and reporting on sales metrics, pipeline development, and conversion rates to measure success
- Following best practices regarding communication, documenting processes, and striving to increase efficiency and effectiveness
- Taking ownership and expected delivery of sales targets through outbound lead and opportunity generation
- Developing compelling capabilities overviews for prospective clients, showcasing our products and services and addressing their specific needs
- Working closely with key COE stakeholders and OHG New Business Development team members, under the guidance of the EVP Growth Strategy, to ensure smooth transition of opportunities and effectively support the conversion process
- Building and nurturing relationships with key decision-makers, stakeholders, and influencers to create a strong network for business development
- Mapping target audiences and validating with internal stakeholders prior to outreach
- Attending and contributing to internal meetings where new business is an essential component
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
- Relevant experience in healthcare environment at a medical communications agency (or similar), pharmaceutical company, or healthcare consultancy
- Relevant experience with proven results in sales, new business development, and/or account management
- Documented success in building an organic network, cultivating new business prospects, and hitting financial targets in the healthcare communications sector
- Solid understanding of medical affairs and marketing remit within the biopharmaceutical sector, including but not limited to medical communications, strategic publication planning, creative communications, digital and omnichannel, and promotional medical education services
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and partnership skills with both internal and external stakeholders
- Professional and confident approach with excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills and an outstanding attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment while maintaining a "can-do" attitude and a strong sense of ownership, pride and accountability
- Effective organizational and multi-tasking abilities
- Ability to prioritize and balance workload and demand, meet timelines, set KPIs, and client expectations
- Proficient in MS365 including Word, Excel, Power Point, Excel, Outlook and Teams. Experience effectively utilizing CRM platforms to support and inform data analytics and approaches required to achieve business development growth and success is a plus!
Travel Requirements
- Up to 25% travel (predominantly North America or EMEA-focused, based on employee location)
