The Producer for Weekend Nightly News and Special Events offers the unique opportunity to be a part of the biggest moments in breaking news, but also to produce feature pieces covering a range of topics. This role will work a Friday through Tuesday schedule, working across two separate teams: the NBC News Network Specials Team and Weekend Nightly News. This is the rare role to have involvement in both live producing and tape producing.
For Specials, you will help produce live breaking news special reports. The position requires experience in the control room. You will coordinate live feeds during breaking news, will communicate with the news desk as well as correspondents in the field. You'll also help identify key video and sound and work with producers and editors to turn it around for air. And you will line up all of these elements and communicate them to the director and senior producers.
In addition, you'll produce tape pieces to work ahead toward big news events, involving setting up, shooting, and editing. There will also be some writing for both tape and live.
For Nightly News Weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to produce substantial and impactful feature stories as well as crash breaking news stories. You’ll be a major part of the broadcast, working closely with the Executive Producer and Senior Producers to pitch, develop, and produce premium news content. And you’ll work at a place that values creativity, experimenting, and expanding your own skillset.
The position offers a foot in both live producing under the tightest of deadlines, as well as more long-lead tape pieces.
