Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

The NBC Sports Bay Area Technology & Operations department provides technical support, engineering, media operations, production, and studio services for the local regional sports network (RSN). Based in San Francisco, NBC Sports Bay Area/California produces programming for local sports teams, including the San Francisco Giants, Athletics, Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, and San Jose Sharks.

The Technology and Operations teams collaborate with our local NBC-owned stations and other NBC divisions to build, deploy, support, and operate the technical systems used throughout the facility. This organization delivers technology and workflow solutions, support services, media operations, production services, studio assistance, and facilities management that power NBCU's local content creation and distribution. The combined Bay Area/California RSNs produce over 600 live sporting events and both studio and remote-based pre- and post-game shows each year across multiple platforms.

Job Description

This is a part-time project/limited term position with an estimated duration of up to 12 months, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Technology team in San Francisco, supporting NBC Sports Bay Area. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for implementing and supporting technology and users in our mission-critical media production and enterprise IT environment. A Snapshot of Your Responsibilities:

  • Gather requirements, plan, and implement technical and workflow solutions for Content, Operations, Live Events, and Creative Services partners.
  • Administer media production applications, systems, and infrastructure, ensuring the reliability of technology and operations.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation for operational and troubleshooting purposes.
  • Provide technical support, incident response, and maintain clear customer communication.
  • Ensure compliance with NBCUniversal cybersecurity policies and standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, radio, television and film, or related fields, or equivalent experience.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in supporting mid to major market news or live event production operations and 24/7 mission-critical technology facilities.
  • Expertise in planning, implementation, and support of media technology, including ST2110, SDI video infrastructures, contribution and distribution encoding, live production systems, news gathering tools, NRCS, NLE, media asset management, and transmission systems.
  • Strong foundation in core IT principles, including administration of physical, virtualized, and cloud compute and storage, networking, and domain and identity management.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex projects resulting in satisfied stakeholders.

Additional Requirements:

  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from our San Francisco office.
  • Hourly rate: $43.27/hr -$52.88/hr. This role is not eligible for company benefits.
