Payroll Specialist

Mather has a new opportunity for a skilled and detail-oriented candidate to join our Accounting team. The Payroll Specialist position is based out of Mather's headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. In this crucial role, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely execution of payroll processing for Mather locations in Virginia, and Illinois. This position plays an integral part in upholding the financial integrity of our operations and supporting our dedicated team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assures consistent, timely and accurate processing of biweekly Prepares and prints checks and direct deposits. Processes manual checks as needed.
• Creates biweekly, year end and ad hoc payroll reports and records including W-2’s.
• Provides companywide training on time keeping software (Kronos) for Mather administrators. Problem solves timekeeping issues and reviews time keeping data (hours and pay codes) for accuracy prior to processing payroll. 
• Proficient user of UKG, including ability to create pay codes and modify GL distribution reports for new codes, create shift differentials, enter holidays, update direct deposit and tax information, perform year-end tasks, and submit tickets for assistance.
• User of Dayforce (formerly Ceridian) to submit tax filings. Researches and communicates impact of changes to federal, state or local law on payroll taxes, filings, etc.
• Prepares companywide quarterly state unemployment reports and 941s.
• Maintains system and data integrity of payroll software and serves as a resource.
• Reviews, audits and processes payment for Travel & Entertainment expense
• Prepares payroll and fringe benefit journal entries for all Mather departments.
• Interface with HR, accounting and all Mather staff regarding payroll related questions/issues. Problem solves to assist team members.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required:

• Associate degree or
• Strong computer skills, payroll and time keeping software experience (UKG & Kronos Dimensions).
• Effective communication skills, able to work independently.
• Knowledge of federal state and local payroll tax and wage and hour regulations.
