Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis

Position Summary:


The Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis reports to the Deputy Chief of Finance. The Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis will be responsible for setting the financial strategy and oversight for budget design & analysis, internal reporting, financial analysis to support organizational goals. The SDFP&A will lead efforts to enhance financial infrastructure, optimize resource allocation, and ensure alignment between financial strategy and organizational priorities. Additionally, they will oversee training and development initiatives to equip school-based operations leaders with the knowledge and tools to manage budgets effectively. The Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis will manage a team of three with two direct reports.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Essential Duties
  • Oversee the processes and systems for development of annual budgets, strategic financial plans, and all internal reports
  • Lead improvements in the infrastructure of budgeting, reporting, and analysis functions including implementing new systems
  • Supervise the Assistant Director of Financial Analysis with the preparation of monthly financial reports for schools and central office teams
  • Conduct routine and ad-hoc analyses to generate insights for school and central office leaders
  • Provide strategic direction for the budget design process for all schools in conjunction with the Deputy Chief of Finance
  • Lead monthly budget meetings with school Principals and Assistant Principals to identify challenges, opportunities, and drive strategic utilization of funds
  • Oversee and guide annual budget meetings with School Principals to align resources for the upcoming school year
  • Supervise the Director of Federal Programs in the effective use of federal funds for student success
  • Ensure National School Lunch Program services are providing necessary services within budgetary constraints
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize state, federal, and private grant resources through resource planning and budgeting
  • Ensures compliance with all grant regulations and monitoring expectations
  • Develop and deliver high-impact trainings for school leaders to increase understanding and effective maximization of budget resources as well as best in class finance practices
  • Support the CFO and Deputy Chief with Board Reporting
  • Leads all financial tasks required in the renewal of Mastery Schools with authorizing agencies
  • Completes additional duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Finance.


Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in school operations and solid knowledge of best practices in financial school operations
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Technology savvy with modeling and presentation skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with strong analytical skills
  • Ability to build, develop, and manage a strong team
  • Demonstrated abilities as a results-oriented individual – a flexible thinker willing to do “whatever it takes”
  • Experience working in a school setting is highly preferred
  • Ability to navigate multiple stakeholders across a large organization, including principals, teachers, parents, and community members with exceptionally high emotional intelligence

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least of ten (10) years of related experience
  • Grants management and/or Federal Program management experience preferred
  • Financial Reporting and Governance-level presentation experience preferred
  • Experience working in an urban education setting preferred


Other Requirements:
  • Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the role as outlined above, and to work in the environmental conditions required, such as traveling to network campuses, monitoring and interacting with students, in-person facilitation of trainings, etc.
  • This role may require frequent travel between multiple locations. Reliable transportation is essential to fulfill job responsibilities.
