We are currently seeking a Thermal Systems CFD Engineer -- Intern. This position requires a passionate student with a basic understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics and a passion for working on EV’s. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches their work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment. This role offers hands-on experience in conducting computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and developing thermal models for various HVAC and automotive systems. As an intern, you will work closely with our experienced engineers, contributing to system-level analyses and optimization projects. Role/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare existing CAD models for CFD simulations.
  • Execute CFD simulations on HVAC and thermal system components and subsystems.
  • Analyze results and compile reports.
  • Participate in design reviews within the team and with other departments.
  • Suggest strategies and concepts to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Participate in lab tests.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
  • Experience with modeling using commercial CFD software.
  • Excellent communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments.
  • A flair for creative engineering and problem solving.
  • Experience of resolving issues through appropriate analysis and design modification.

Nice to Have:

  • Graduate level knowledge of CFD, heat transfer, and turbulent flows
  • Product development experience

Education:

  • M.Sc. or PhD level in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Currently enrolled in Master’s or PhD Degree program at an accredited university
  • Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS, PhD)

Program Information: 

  • Timing: January to April 2025 with potential to extension into summer
  • Duration of Internship: This is a 12 to 24 week internship, Spring Co-Op
  • Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work.
  • Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $35 to $48 (subject to changes).
  • Relocation: May be provided on a case to case basis. 
  • Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.  
  • Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check. 
  • Drug Screening: All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen. 
  • Medical benefits: Dental, vision, and medical on day 1 for all interns working full-time.
  • Visa Sponsorship: Lucid may but is not obligated to sponsor foreign national employees requiring company sponsorship for U.S employment authorization. 

Compensation Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.
 
Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.  (Cash or equity incentive awards, if any, will depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and company performance.)
