Integration Engineer

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Integration Engineer at Lindblad Expeditions will be responsible for connecting various internal and external systems to enhance both team productivity and guest engagement.


The ideal candidate will have experience with integration software (like n8n) and scheduled services (written in Golang and shell scripting), and will implement quality pipelines, adhering to best practices, and reducing technical complexity.


This role requires a willingness to handle diverse integration projects (such as customer data platforms, reservation systems, payment providers, and shipboard management) and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities as new business opportunities emerge.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaboration and Requirements Gathering: Work closely with cross-functional teams including business analysts, data scientists, and software engineers to thoroughly understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions for data integration and pipeline development.
  • Data Pipeline Design and Implementation: Design and implement robust and scalable data pipelines using the n8n platform. This includes data ingestion, transformation, validation, and loading processes across various data sources and destinations.
  • High-Quality Code Development: Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code that adheres to industry best practices and coding standards. Ensure code efficiency and performance optimization for optimal data processing.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and analyze pipeline performance. Identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement. Refactor code and optimize data flow to enhance overall pipeline efficiency and throughput.
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems to track pipeline health and performance. Proactively identify and resolve technical issues to ensure data integrity and pipeline uptime.
  • Technology and Industry Trends: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in the data integration and pipeline space. Evaluate and recommend new solutions to improve pipeline capabilities and efficiency.
  • System Integration: Integrate diverse internal and external systems, including databases, APIs, and cloud services, to enable seamless data exchange and support business processes. Leverage relevant APIs and integration technologies to connect disparate systems.
  • Project Participation: Actively participate in all phases of technical initiatives, from initial design and implementation to final delivery and ongoing support. Collaborate with project teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Roadmap and Planning: Contribute to roadmap and planning activities to define project scope, deliverables, and timelines. Ensure clear understanding of project requirements and dependencies.
  • Effective Communication: Communicate clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Provide regular updates on project progress, risks, and issues. Foster a collaborative and transparent communication environment.
  • DevOps Practices: Embrace DevOps principles and practices, including continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), to streamline development, testing, and deployment processes. Automate build, test, and deployment pipelines to accelerate delivery and ensure code quality.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of experience in critical system development
  • 3+ years of experience as an Integration Engineer
  • 1+ years of experience using Golang
  • Proficiency writing code in Typescript/JavaScript
  • Proficiency in Shell scripting
  • Experience with CICD software lifecycle and working within an Agile/Scrum team environment
  • Experience leveraging REST API (JSON/XML) for SAAS plaforms (e.g. Salesforce)
  • Experience working with GraphQL APIs
  • Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases as well as caching systems (Redis)
  • Some experience working with AWS services
  • Solid understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices
  • Experience with code collaboration platforms like GitHub
  • Familiarity with Docker
  • Familiarity with identity management software (OAuth)
  • A problem-solver mindset with strong debugging skills and high attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to articulate technical concepts and communicate effectively with other team members


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Data Warehousing: Experience with data warehousing concepts and technologies
  • Data Modeling: Understanding of data modeling principles and techniques
  • Big Data: Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
  • Machine Learning: Basic understanding of machine learning concepts and algorithms


REVIEW AND USE AS MAKES SENSE (we can add years to these to further qualify):
  • Strong Programming Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used for data pipeline development (e.g., Python, Java).
  • Data Integration Experience: Hands-on experience with data integration tools and platforms, preferably n8n. Familiarity with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes.
  • Database Knowledge: Strong understanding of database concepts and experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • API Integration: Experience with API integration and web services.
  • Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-based data services.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Adaptability and Learning: Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.


$115,000 - $130,000 a year
This role is eligible for a 7.5% annual bonus, based on performance.

Using the English language, this person must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend policies, legal guidelines, correspondence, and memos.   Must also possess the ability to effectively communicate--both in writing and orally--with a professional demeanor. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear.  The employee will also be required to write and type.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  


COMPENSATION STATEMENT

Lindblad Expeditions determines the pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.


For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s location, level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
