Coordinator, Torch Relays

The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

LA28, the organizers for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, is on a mission to create an unparalleled Games experience for athletes, fans, partners, our community and our people. Our vision is to collectively create what’s next through sport, community and the power of our differences.

The 2028 Olympics and Paralympics will represent LA and leverage the strength of our community’s diversity and creativity as we collectively work to design a Games that we all want to be a part of. We do this by focusing on people and by inviting everyone into the story of the LA28 Games.

The LA28 organizing committee is an independent, non-profit organization that is privately funded and governed by a board of directors.

COORDINATOR, TORCH RELAYS

The Torch Relays (RLY) functional area is responsible for the planning & execution of LA28’s Olympic & Paralympic Torch Relays. They are signature elements of the Games, sharing the spirit of the Olympics and Paralympics throughout the host country through the symbol of the Olympic & Paralympic flames. They are a key national promotional/marketing tool focused on creating an inclusive and accessible Games experience for people of all backgrounds and abilities and responsible for developing a sense of excitement and anticipation across the country leading up to the Olympic & Paralympic Opening Ceremonies.  

The Coordinator will report to the Head of Torch Relays and support day-to-day planning and management activities. LA28 is looking for a highly motivated candidate to support every facet of the team. Working in our Los Angeles office, this position will collaborate with numerous other functional areas to help drive the overall success of the Olympic & Paralympic Torch Relays. The candidate must be organized, have a strong attention to detail, and be able to handle many diverse projects at once. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in event and project management & be prepared to join the Torch Relays on the road in 2028. 

Key Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Designing and delivering project management plans, under the direction of the Head of Torch Relays 
  • Managing project logistics, timelines, files and systems  
  • Creating presentations, tracking documents and other work products as needed 
  • Updating & maintaining milestone, business & service plans  
  • Tracking contractual obligations, protocols, and requirements 
  • Aiding in the planning and management of meetings & working groups 
  • Managing coordination and communication with other internal teams and stakeholders 
  • Owning knowledge management for the functional area, including tracking news, conducting research, and familiarizing oneself with past Games reports 
  • Aiding in the creation and review of communication materials, planning guides and promotional content 
  • Managing additional administrative functions as needed  

Background & Qualifications:

  • Strong operational delivery and program execution skills  
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously  
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen eye for detail 
  • Clear communicator, with strong presentation preparation skills 
  • Self-starter, possessing the drive to start a project and see it through to completion 
  • Team player, willing to pitch in and collaborate well across cross-functional teams 
  • Problem solver, willing to take initiative & bring solutions to the table 
  • Experience in live event or mobile tour environment 
  • Passion for the Olympic & Paralympic Movement  
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field of study 
  • 1-2 years of work experience in event or project management 

Work Conditions:

  • Working in an open office environment, on-site 4-5 days per week 
  • Willingness to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends. Specifically in 2028, the expectation for this role is to be on the road with the Olympic & Paralympic Relays

The annual base salary range for this position is $60,000.00 - $70,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.

LA28 does not provide relocation assistance.
