We are seeking a dynamic Head of Video to lead the development, production, and optimization of video content across our digital platforms—primarily focusing on YouTube. This role offers the opportunity to shape and expand our video presence while maintaining brand integrity and driving measurable audience engagement. Reporting to VP of Growth, you will manage the full lifecycle of video content, from strategy and planning through production and distribution across multiple YouTube channels.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Planning & Execution
Develop a comprehensive video content strategy aligned with Forbes Marketplace’s broader business goals and editorial calendar.
Serve as the primary owner of the YouTube channel strategy, incorporating audience development, content scheduling, and analytics-based optimizations.
Drive rapid growth through hands-on involvement in every aspect of video production and channel optimization.
Create a plan to leverage YouTube assets for other video platforms.
Own monetization strategy across all channels and platforms.
Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and platform updates to refine and improve the video roadmap.
2. Content Ideation & Production
Conceptualize innovative video formats, series, and features that resonate with our audience, leveraging storytelling best practices and data insights.
Leverage our proprietary data and testing to create best-in-class recommendations content.
Oversee the production pipeline (pre-production, filming, editing, post-production) to ensure high-quality output that meets brand standards.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Editorial, Marketing, Social, etc.) and external production teams/freelancers when necessary.
3. Team Leadership & Collaboration
Recruit, mentor, and manage a cross-functional video team, including production coordinators, script coordinators, editors, and on-camera talent.
Partner with internal teams to align video content with trending topics, evergreen stories, and product launches in key verticals (e.g., Finance, Health, SMB).
Foster a collaborative environment that encourages experimentation and continuous learning among team members.
4. Channel Management & Optimization
Create, own and operate YouTube channels, driving subscriber growth, watch time, and overall engagement.
Implement best practices for algorithm-friendly titles, descriptions, tags, and thumbnails to maximize visibility and click-through rates.
Leverage analytics tools to track performance metrics, identify trends, and refine content strategies.
Own and manage presence in other video platforms.
Defend content quality by building and enforcing guardrails.
5. Budgeting & Resource Allocation
Manage video production budgets, negotiating with vendors or freelance contractors as needed to optimize cost and quality.
Ensure all resources—equipment, software, team bandwidth—are allocated efficiently to meet production timelines and business objectives.
6. Performance Analysis & Reporting
Define and track KPIs (views, engagement, watch time, ROI) to evaluate success and identify improvement opportunities.
Provide regular updates to senior leadership, translating insights into clear, actionable recommendations.
Use data-driven experimentation (A/B testing, audience segmentation) to refine content formats and increase audience retention.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
5+ years of experience in digital video production, including 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
Proven track record of managing and growing one or more YouTube channels at scale.
Experience in other video platforms (TikTok, Reels, etc)
Experience managing brand channels with multiple on-air talent a plus.
Technical Expertise
Expert familiarity with YouTube Studio and YouTube Analytics.
Proficiency with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) and familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana).
Strong understanding of YouTube’s algorithm, metadata best practices, and content optimization techniques.
Familiarity with a variety of common video production equipment (cameras, mics, basic lighting, etc.) including low/intro level gear.
Knowledge of live streaming setups and other advanced video production workflows is a plus.
Leadership & Collaboration
Demonstrated ability to lead a team, providing clear direction, mentorship, and performance feedback.
Experience working cross-functionally to develop integrated media strategies.
Exceptional communication skills to convey ideas to both creative and non-creative stakeholders.
Analytical & Creative Mindset
Data-driven approach to evaluating video performance, with the ability to pivot strategies based on platform updates or audience feedback.
Creative problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
Familiarity with branding, storytelling techniques, and conversion-focused calls to action.
