DIVISION GENERAL COUNSEL

Job Summary

As Division General Counsel you will advise and guide our regional leaders in regard to real estate transactions, policy, strategy, claims and litigation. The most rewarding part of this role is knowing that your accuracy and knowledge will minimize risk to the organization and business partners.

These skills will be used to:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate real estate purchase and sale agreements, easements, development agreements, side agreements, vendor agreements, and leases for business partners.
  • Manage and participate in litigation and claims.
  • Review and counsel business partners on marketing and sales initiatives.
  • Manage and mitigate legal risks by implementing company and legal department policies and procedures.
  • Research legal concepts, statutory interpretation, and case law as needed.
  • Promote legal compliance and risk management best practices throughout the Company.
  • Coordinate and manage external consultants and partners.
  • Communicate complex legal issues and risks in terms that our business partners can understand.
  • Train and work with paralegals.
  • Support the General Counsel as needed and perform such additional tasks assigned by the General Counsel.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in Commercial Real Estate.
  • Member in good standing with a State accredited bar.
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Sound understanding of real estate law and title and survey.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior In-house experience, big/medium firm experience or homebuilding experience.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements
  • Prior litigation management experience
  • Strong commercial mindset and business acumen

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Must use sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone, computer, and face-to-face contact.
  • Must have the capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment such as but not limited to the computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods with low periods of reaching and standing.
  • Must be able to work in an office environment.
  • Limited travel.
